CMS Finishes 14th In Director's Cup
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps finished 14th in the Learfield Sports Director’s Cup Division III Final Standings for 2011-12 which were announced yesterday. CMS finished with 610.5 points in the competition which awards points based on a team’s finish at the NCAA Championships. CMS was the highest finishing team from the SCIAC and also the highest finishing team from the West Coast. Among programs with 3100 student-athletes or fewer, CMS finished fifth overall.
The program was 25th after earning 146 points during the fall season with three teams represented at the NCAA Championships: women’s cross country (4th), men’s soccer (t17th) and men’s cross country (29th). We were 29th after adding 140.5 points in the winter with the finishes of women’s swimming (ninth), men’s swimming (27th) and men's basketball (t33rd). Five teams added 324 points in the spring to move the program up to 14th: men's golf (fourth), men’s and women’s tennis (both t-fifth), women’s golf (14th) and softball (t25th).
The Director’s Cup competition is now in its 17th year. CMS has been the top finishing SCIAC school in 15 of those years and also finished in the top 60 15 times. 2012 was the ninth top 30 finish for the program.
