Cross Country Schedule
The first meet of the season is scheduled to be held in Santa Barbara on Saturday, Sept. 6. In what has become an alumni event, the meet features a four mile combined race versus the Warriors of Westmont College, followed by a 100-plus person dodge ball competition on the sands of Ledbetter Beach. For those familiar with the CMS cross country teams, the 2014 schedule is similar to the last few seasons. After the season-opening meet in Santa Barbara, the Athenas and Stags have the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 13 and the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 27. The teams kick off October with the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Oct. 4 before getting into SCIAC, regional and national competition to close out the season in November. For more information on the alumni meet, please contact head coach John Goldhammer.
For the second-consecutive year, the Stags are making a trip to the Pacific Northwest to face a foe from the Northwest Conference to open the season. This time around, CMS takes on the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington on Sept. 6 to kick off the year. In 2013, CMS defeated Lewis & Clark in Oregon 31-28 in the first game of the year. CMS plays Lewis & Clark again in 2014, but this time in Claremont for CMS’ home-opener on Sept. 13. The game against Lewis & Clark kicks off a stretch in the schedule with three-straight home games, the other two coming against Chapman (Oct. 4) and La Verne (Oct. 11). The Stags also have home games against Cal Lutheran (Nov. 1) and Whittier (Nov. 8). Games at Redlands (Oct. 18), Occidental (Oct. 25) and Pomona-Pitzer (Nov. 15) round out the nine game regular season schedule for the Stags.
Women’s Soccer Schedule
The Athenas kick off their season on Aug. 29 with a neutral site match against Southwestern (Texas) at Cal Lutheran. CMS’ first four matches of the season (all non-conference) are away from home. On Sept. 13, the Athenas’ home-opener is against Lewis & Clark. There are 20 matches on the 2014 regular season schedule with nine of those matches at home. The Athenas first six matches of the season are against non-conference opponents (Southwestern, Pacific Lutheran, Emmanuel, MIT, Lewis & Clark and Santa Cruz) before opening up SCIAC play at home on Sept.17 against Cal Lutheran. The final match of the regular season is on Nov. 1 at Pomona-Pitzer. Also on the schedule is the team’s annual Alumni Game on Sept. 28. For more information on the Alumni Game, please contact head coach Keri Sanchez.
Men’s Soccer Schedule
The Stags season and home-opener is on August 30 against Cal Baptist. CMS has 18 regular season matches on the schedule (two non-conference and 16 SCIAC). The Stags open up conference play on Sept. 10 at Pomona-Pitzer which begins a conference schedule that includes two matches against each conference team. In addition to the Cal Baptist non-conference match, CMS faces UC Santa Cruz at home (Oct. 11) and has a scrimmage at Azusa Pacfic (Sept. 4). The final home match of the regular season is against Whittier (Oct. 27) while the regular season finale is at Caltech (Nov. 1).
Of the 29 matches on the 2014 schedule, the first 13 are against non-conference opponents and 18 of the matches are at home. All CMS home volleyball matches in 2014 and 2015 will be played at Harvey Mudd College’s Linde Activities Center. The season gets underway on Aug. 29 with matches against St. Scholastica and UC Santa Cruz as part of the Pacific Coast Classic hosted by CMS. The Athenas also have four matches at Cal Lutheran’s Posada Royale Invitational on the schedule early in the season and a four-match swing through Texas for matches at Trinity in San Antonio, Sept. 12-13. Conference play begins for the Athenas on Sept. 19 at home against Caltech. Starting with the Caltech match, the final 16 matches of the regular season are all against conference opponents. The final regular season match is on Nov. 1 at home against Chapman.
