CLAREMONT, Calif. – A busy and exciting spring season for CMS Athletics begins in February when 10 sports will begin play for 2016. The schedules for baseball, men’s and women’s golf, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s tennis, track and field, softball and women’s water polo have been published on the CMS Athletics website. A full list of alumni events for the spring sports can be found here.
Baseball – Schedule
Prior to the official start of the 2016 season, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team will host its annual reunion and alumni game on Jan. 30. The year will begin with a pair of home games against Master’s on Feb. 9 and Willamette on Feb. 12. The SCIAC portion of the Stags’ schedule starts Feb. 19-20 with a home-and-home against Pomona-Pitzer. CMS will then host several east coast teams, including Eastern Mennonite (Mar. 7), Rutgers-Newark (Mar. 11-12) and Ithaca (Mar. 14-15) before resuming SCIAC play for the remainder of the season. The Stags will return to campus on Jan. 10 to start practice.
Men’s Golf – Schedule
The CMS men’s golf program opens the spring portion of its schedule Feb. 6-7 with a SCIAC tournament right out of the gate at the Redlands Country Club. The Men’s Golf Alumni Tournament is scheduled for Feb. 27-28. Other highlights of the schedule include a trip to Jekyll Island, GA Mar. 17-20 for the Collegiate Invitational and the second SCIAC tournament of the year Apr. 9-10 in Anaheim. The SCIAC Championships will take place in Beaumont, Calif. April 24-26. The men’s team will start practice Jan. 14.
Women’s Golf – Schedule
The Athenas kick-off 2016 at the Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills Feb. 14 where they will compete for the Walker Cup. The first SCIAC tournament will take place Feb. 20-21 at the Tukwet Canyon Golf Club in Beaumont, followed by a trip down to San Marcos for the CSUSM Cougar Invitational Feb. 29-March 1. The conference section of the schedule will conclude with the second SCIAC tournament in West Covina Apr. 2-3 followed by the SCIAC Championships at the Oak Valley Golf Club Apr. 24-26.
Women’s Lacrosse – Schedule
The women’s lacrosse alumnae game, the Trapp Family Classic, is the first event of 2016 for the Athenas, who will open the regular season at Pomona-Pitzer Feb. 24 and at Chapman Feb. 27. The CMS women’s lacrosse team will then play eight straight home games featuring six non-conference opponents such as Montclair St. (March 11), Puget Sound (March 17) and Colorado College (March 19). Conference games will resume April 6 and will run through the end of the regular season, April 23 at home against Occidental. The SCIAC Championships begin on April 27.
Men’s Tennis – Schedule
After the Ducey Cup Alumni Match on Feb. 13, the Stags will look to defend their national championship beginning Feb. 20 with a home double header against Brandeis and Concordia. The annual Stag-Hen Invitational will occur Marh 11-12 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. The Stags will play a majority of their divisional and conference matches at home featuring matchups with Amherst on March 19, Pomona-Pitzer on April 1 and a national championship rematch against Middlebury on April 2. CMS will also host the SCIAC Championships May 6-8.
Women’s Tennis – Schedule
The Athenas will play in the Gerry Lahanas Alumnae Classic Jan. 30 before embarking on their 2016 campaign. The Athenas open the season on the road at Cal Lutheran Feb. 6 and at UC San Diego Feb. 13. From there, CMS will play the next eight of nine matches at home, followed by a trip to Atlanta, Ga. for matches against Williams, Emory and Trinity March. 25-27. The final stretch of the 2016 schedule will highlight contests at Pomona-Pitzer on April 1, at home against Middlebury on April 2, and the regular season finale at home against La Verne on April 28. The Athenas will begin training on Jan. 16. The SCIAC Championships are May 6-7 at Pomona-Pitzer.
Track and Field – Schedule
The CMS Track and Field teams begin 2016 with the alumni meet on Feb. 6. The Stags and Athenas will then compete in the Sialaris Memorial Throws Meet on Feb. 13. The SCIAC competitions are set for Mar. 5, Apr. 2 and Apr. 16 and the teams will travel to Arizona State University Apr. 7-9 for the Sun Angel Invite. After the SCIAC Championships at Caltech Apr. 29-30, CMS will host the Claremont Classic XIII May 5-6.
Softball – Schedule
The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team hosts Vanguard Feb. 6 when the 2016 season gets underway. CMS will play its first SCIAC double header Feb. 12 at Chapman and will battle the Sagehens at home on March 5. Softball then travels to Columbus, Ga. for the Leadoff Classic Mar. 11-13. Following home contests with Hamline on Mar. 18, the Athenas take on the second half of the conference schedule. The regular season concludes Apr. 30 with the home finale against Occidental. The SCIAC Tournament is May 6-7.
Women’s Water Polo – Schedule
The Athena water polo team will play Concordia and Azusa Pacific on Feb. 6 to open the 2016 season. The first home match for CMS will be Feb. 25 against Hawaii. The Convergence Tournament will take place Mar. 4-5 at Axelrood Pool and the Athenas will then move on to face plenty of conference opponents, ending the regular season at Pomona-Pitzer on Apr. 13. This year’s SCIAC Championships will be at the University of Redlands Apr. 22-24. The women’s team begins practice on Jan. 16.
