Bats Silent For CMS In Doubleheader Loss
CLAREMONT, Calif.—The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team dropped both games Saturday to the University of Redlands at Arce Field in conference play. The Stags fell behind early in the first game eventually losing 8-2 while falling in the night cap 11-4.
Game 1: Redlands 8, CMS 2
Through the first seven innings CMS was only able to muster one hit, a Jack Witte single in the fourth, against Redlands starter Kyle Hart as they found themselves in a 5-0 hole. The Stags only runs would come in the bottom of the eighth when Andrew Burgard scored on a Redlands throwing error and later in the inning senior Sam Katz crossed home on a Brian Bartlett fielder's choice.
Redlands would respond in the top of the ninth with three insurance runs. Junior starting pitcher Andor Kesselman had a solid outing scattering five runs over eight innings of work while Brett Watanabe and Dustin Green collected a hit apiece.
Game 2: Redlands 11, CMS 4
CMS would counter an early run by the Bulldogs with one of their own in the bottom of the second when a fielder's choice by Green scored Watanabe who had led off the inning with a single. Redlands would then score the next ten runs before CMS could answer as they would outhit the Stags 17 to 7.
In the bottom of the eighth Michael Gose led off the inning with a single and a batter later would score on Jack Witte double. Junior Scott Witte followed with a mammoth home run to left field, his fifth of the season.
Gose and Scott Witte would each finish the game with two hits each.
