Stags Trip To Seattle Successful Despite Results

The men's soccer team traveled to the Seattle area this past weekend to play the opening matches of their season.  Their first contest, against the University of Puget Sound, started off with a bang as the Stags jumped to an early 1-0 lead.  Unfortunately, an unlucky own goal just a few minutes later tied the score, and the Stags never recovered, surrendering two more goals for a final score of 3-1.  Despite the loss, it was a very positive effort for the Stags, who showed promising chemistry in their first match that will undoubtably yield success in league play.  CMS took even more steps forward in their second match of the weekend against Linfield College.  Once again, the Stags found themselves with an early 1-0 lead on a goal from senior forward Max Lipset.  They dominated the opposition for the majority of the game, controlling the speed of play and creating several goal-scoring opportunities that resulted in near-misses. With about 10 minutes to play Linfield scored an equalizer, forcing overtime, and put in the game winner 12 minutes into the extra period.  Despite coming out of the weekend 0-2, the Stags were extremely pleased with their progress on the field, as they remained competitive with two excellent teams who had already played in several games this season.

During their day off, the Stags spent time in Downtown Seattle, exploring the local surroundings and dining on fresh seafood.  They also dedicated two hours to volunteering at a local mission, serving dinner to homeless men, women and children.  All in all it was very successful weekend, as the team returned to California feeling united and extremely prepared for league play.  This year's combination of strong senior leadership and promising young talent guarantees that this will be one of the most successful and enjoyable seasons for Stags soccer in recent memory.
