Stags Qualify for NCAA's

The men's cross country team ran their best team race of the season Saturday at the NCAA West Regional and were rewarded with an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships. CMS finished third with 92 points, but were just four points from second and 17 from first. The top two teams at each of the eight regionals automatically qualified for the championships. The third, fourth and fifth place teams at each regional were considered for the 16 at-large bids. CMS equalled the closest third place team to second and were the closest third place team to first.

Dan Hayman (SR, Marysville, WA) was first for the team, but was hampered by an injured foot and placed 11th overall (he placed in the top six each of his first three seasons). Mike Van Antwerp (SO, Reno, NV) finished 14th. Chris Gurney (SO, Ventura) and Brad Johnson (JR, Berkeley) ran together for most of the race and finished 21st and 22nd. James Moore (SR, Mercer Island, WA) had the best race of his career and finished 33rd. Ethan Meyers (FR, Pacific Palisades) was 49th and Adam Coleman (JR, Clayton) was 60th.

Hayman, Van Antwerp, Gurney, Johnson and Moore were named All-Region for finishing in the top 35. This was Hayman's fourth All-Region honor and Van Antwerp's second.

The NCAA Championships are being hosted by Wilmington College at Voice of America Park in West Chester, OH. The race will start at 11:00 on Saturday, November 18. This will be the Stags' sixth team appearance. They have appeared in 1989, 1993, 2000, 2001 and 2002. Their best finish is 12th (2000).
