Stags Finish 30th at NCAA Championships
The men's cross country team finished 30th at the NCAA Division III Championships in Hanover, Indiana on Saturday. The Stags, ranked 27th prior to the race, started slowly and were deep in the field of 280 runners and were forced to try to move up through the field. They finished with 733 points, but did beat the team that finished in front of them at last week's West Region meet.
Racing in 28 degree temperatures, the team was led by Florian Scheulen (JR, Encinitas). He finished 169th in 25:59. The remaining scorers all finished close together. Bryan Chow (FR, Livermore) was 200th in 26:12, Michael Van Antwerp (SR, Reno, NV) 201st in 26:12, Dillon Ayers (SO, Eureka) 207th in 26:16 and Kramer Straube (SO, Menlo Park) 215th in 26:20. Also competing for the Stags were Brian Kopczynski (SO, Coto de Caza) 241st in 26:32 and Chris Gurney (SR, Ventura) 249th in 26:36.
This was the Stags' seventh team appearance in the NCAA Championships.
