Both Cross Country Teams And Four Runners Earn Academic Honors

The men's and women's cross country teams along with two runners from each squad earned All-Academic honors from the United State Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as announced by the USTFCCCA yesterday. To qualify for the All-Academic award, teams must receive a score at an NCAA Regional meet while all members of the team average a cumulative GPA of 3.10 or better and individuals must finish in the top 25% of their Regional meet while maintaining a 3.50 or better cumulative GPA.

CMS' women, 2008 SCIAC and West Region Champions, had an average cumulative GPA of 3.345 for their 20 runners after the Fall 2008 semester.  Julia Rigby (FR, Tustin) and Kathleen Harris (SR, Bremerton, WA) earned individual honors.  Rigby, an undecided major at Scripps, finished ninth and Harris, a Psychology & Politics/International Relations major at Scripps, finished 12th at the Regional meet.

CMS' men, winners of the 2008 SCIAC Championships and West Region runner-ups, had an average cumulative GPA of 3.320 for their 21 runners after the Fall semester.  Florian Scheulen (JR, Encinitas) and Chris Gurney (SR, Ventura) earned individual honors.  Scheulen, an Engineering major at Harvey Mudd, finished third and Gurney, an Environmental Science major at Claremont McKenna, finished 21st at the Regional meet.
