Crawford, Herrera and Stanek land on SCIAC All-Academic football team

PASADENA, Calif. – A trio of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football players in junior defensive back Phil Crawford, sophomore linebacker A.J. Herrera and sophomore wideout and punter Tyler Stanek have all been selected to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) All-Academic team, the conference announced on March 4.

Crawford played in eight games for the Stags in 2013 and logged 26 tackles and had a season-high five tackles in road games at Cal Lutheran and Chapman. Herrera led the team in tackles (86) and tackles per game (9.6) and also added three pass breakups while Stanek finished third on the team with 21 receptions and finished second in receiving touchdowns with three. As the Stags' punter, Stanek averaged 39.1 yards per punt with a season long punt of 75 yards.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.40 cumulative grade point average at his/her current institution, must have completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution, and must have reached sophomore athletic eligibility. In the case of transfers, graduate students, and two-year college graduates, the student-athlete must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution.

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference was established in 1915. The league is currently comprised of nine athletic programs from private colleges and universities in Southern California: California Institute of Technology, California Lutheran University, Chapman University, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, University of La Verne, Occidental College, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, University of Redlands, and Whittier College. The conference recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly and annual basis.
