Decisive win over UC Santa Cruz with contributions by all
CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team beat UC Santa Cruz in the final game of the David Well Classic 77-59 on Saturday night. CMS took the lead with the first basket and never looked back in a game in which all 14 Stags played.
CMS increased their lead to a margin of 23 points during the second half and clinched the win with a final score of 77-59.
Coach Scalmanini found a way for all 14 of his players to get in the game and contribute. Freshman Oliver Mausner made a three-pointer and blocked a Slug's shot. Senior Eric Van Wart scored with a layup to increase the lead to 20 points. Sophomore Richard Harris also came off the bench to block an opposing player's shot.
Junior Jack Grodahl was 3-4 for three point shots and 3-4 at the foul line in the second half accruing 14 points for the half, 16 in the game.
The Stags shot an impressive 53% from the field and out-rebounded the Slugs 38-28.
CMS plays at Westmont on Tuesday, December 3rd at 7 pm and then returns home to face Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday, December 11th at 7:30 pm. This will be the final men's CMS-PP rivalry game played in Ducey Gym before its demolition.
