The CMS men’s golf team claimed a second consecutive victory, closing out its fall season in a dual match with Occidental College. Playing on their home turf at Empire Lakes GC for the first time this season, the Stags fired a 6-over par 294 to win the match by 15 strokes. Sophomore Michael Liu (Tustin [pictured]) paced the Stags with a steady even par round of 72, tying him for medalist honors with Occidental’s Sam Weiss. The win was Liu’s first with his previous career best a second place finish in last year’s CMS Invitational. Right on his heels were senior Matt Manotoc (Manila, Phillipines) and fellow sophomore Tain Lee (San Juan Capistrano), who both carded one over par rounds of 73. John Morris (SR, Santa Rosa), Jay Tymkovich (SO, Broomfield, CO), and Ryan Irish (FR, Gold River) rounded out the team, shooting rounds of 76, 78, and 84 respectively. The victory caps off a successful fall campaign for the Stags, who currently sit tenth in the NCAA Division III standings. The team can now take the three month long winter break to fine tune their games in preparation for a spring schedule that includes conference play and potentially a May visit to Hershey, Pennsylvania for the national championship.
