The Stags made their annual trip to Lompoc, CA for the CLU Kingsmen Invitational hosted at La Purisima Golf Course, the 33rd hardest course in the nation, and came away with a 15-shot victory after shooting 918 as a team. For seniors John Morris, Kyle Casella, and Matthew Manotoc, this tournament marked their last 54-hole event as Stags against a strong Division III field that included familiar SCIAC adversaries as well as national opponents. In breezy conditions defending champion Tain Lee paced the Stags and the field with rounds of 68-76-77 for a three round total of 221, good enough to defend his title by four strokes.
The first round saw the Stags jumped out to an early 11 shot lead over University of Redlands, and they never looked back on the way to a big win. John Morris posted a third place finish with a three day total of 228, the third time he has posted a top three finish at La Purisima. Matt Manotoc placed 10th with a total of 232, Kyle Casella finished 26th at 240, and Ryan Irish rounded out the score sheet with 242, good enough for 28th in the 78-player field. This was the first win at the CLU Kingsmen Invitational for the Stags under Coach Bim Jollymour, and the team looks to build on that momentum heading into SCIAC #4 at Industry Hills Golf Club on Monday, April 5.
