Stags In Second After Day One of NCAA Golf Championships

CMS shot a one-over 289 on the first day of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships and are in second place in the 41-team field.  Brad Shigezawa (pictured) is the co-leader after the first day after recording a four-under 68.  He recorded seven birdies on the day including three to go along with six pars for a three-under on the back nine.

Jordan Stein is tied for ninth with an even-par 72.  Tain Lee is +2 at 74, Philip North is +3 at 75 and Aron Larson is +6 at 78.

CMS played the Las Colinas course on Tuesday as did all of the teams currently in the top eight.  Tomorrow the Stags will play the El Campeon course.  After tomorrow's round, the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams.  After day one, 15th place is +17.

Prior to the championships, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced the Division III PING All-Region honorees as well as the Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars.  Lee was named to both lists marking his fourth straight appearance on the All-West Region team and his second time as an All-American Scholar.  Shigezawa was also named to the All-West Region team.
