Stags Score Late To Topple Tigers

Max Lipset (SR, St. Paul, MN) scored two goals in the last 15 minutes to bring CMS from behind and gain a 3-2 home win over Occidental.  CMS moved into a three-way tie for first in SCIAC with a 4-1 record and are 4-4 overall.  Occidental is 3-5 overall and 2-3 in SCIAC (fifth).

The Stags fell behind midway through the first half when the Tigers converted on a penalty kick.  Six minutes later Griffin Halpern (SR, San Diego) scored the equalizer by redirecting a ball from Stefan Gonzalez (SO, San Gabriel).  Kevin Festini (JR, Fremont) just missed giving the Stags the halftime lead as he sent a swerving left footed ball crashing off the crossbar minutes before the horn.

Occidental took the lead again early in the second half as they converted their second penalty kick.  Festini just missed on another chance as he hit the crossbar minutes later on a header.  Lipset tied the game in the 76th minute with a 30-yard shot that caught the Tiger keeper off his line.  He scored the game winner eight minutes later, heading in an Ian Anderson (FR, San Francisco [pictured]) cross.  Lipset leads the Stags with nine goals.

CMS travels to Redlands for their next game.  They play at 11:00 on Saturday, September 29.
