Stags Battle to Draw with Poets

The Men's Soccer Team (3-1-1, 1-0-1 in SCIAC) battled the Whittier Poets (3-2-1, 1-0-1 in SCIAC) on Saturday for 110 minutes only to end the game in a draw.

Despite being outshot by the Poets, the Stag defense was able to hold on for their 4th consecutive shutout.  In the second half of regulation Adolfo Santos (Whittier) broke free, but hit the ball just wide.  Marshall Fisher (SR, Des Moines, IA) was able to help the defense regain composure and hold strong for the remainder of the match.

Keeper Joseph Swartley (SR, Monte Sereno) made a game saving play on a Poet free kick from just outside the 18-yard box in the second period of overtime.  Eric Bean (JR, Waukee, IA) had the best chance for the Stags late in the game with a beautiful shot that the Whittier keeper was just able to tip over the crossbar.

CMS and Whittier are currently tied for second in SCIAC.  The Stags will play at Occidental (1-4, 1-1 in SCIAC) on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
