Men's Soccer Pulls Off Comeback For Victory

The Stags Men's Soccer Team (4-2-2, 2-1-2 in SCIAC) improved their record on the road against the University of La Verne Leopards (2-5-1, 2-3 in SCIAC) on Wednesday after a dramatic 2-1 victory in overtime play.

The first half of play ended in a deadlock with both teams creating numerous chances. The game opened up midway through the second half as ULV's Peter Careaga found the back of the net after a scramble just outside the penalty area.

With just two minutes remaining in regulation time, CMS found their equalizer from an Alex Lichtenberg (JR, Beverly Hills) [pictured] corner kick. The lofted ball to the back post found the head of Harrison Doyle (SO, Hidden Hills) who slotted it into the far corner, sending the game into sudden death overtime.

The Stags built off of their momentum and sealed their victory just five minutes into the first period of overtime when Lichtenberg swung a corner out of the La Verne keeper's grasp and inside the far post.

Both teams recorded 16 shots. Goalkeeper Joseph Swartley (SR, Monte Sereno) saved 10 shots while La Verne's keeper saved 5.

CMS will take on cross-street rivals Pomona-Pitzer (1-7, 1-4 in SCIAC) on Saturday at 1:00 PM at Pritzlaff Field.
