Stags Defeat Southwestern 5-2

The CMS Stags travelled to Georgetown, Texas on Sunday to take on the Southwestern Pirates in a regional match. The Stags prevailed 5-2 after sweeping the doubles and then taking four of six singles. Juniors Kyle Ellison and Jason Evans both won at the top two singles positions to lead the Stags. Freshman Kirthi Narasimhan, playing his second dual match in as many days in his home state, staged a dramatic come-from-behind win at #4 singles. Down 1-6, 1-4, 30-all, Narasimhan battled back to win the second set and then won out 6-1 in the third. Junior Michael Kayatta won a three-set match in similar fashion, dropping the first set, winning the second set in a tie-breaker, and then rallying from a service break down in the third to win the match. The Stags conclude their match play in Texas tomorrow at the Austin Tennis Academy, with matches against Hardin Simmons at 9:30 AM and Whitman at 2:00 PM.
