NCAA Singles and Doubles Results
The CMS tennis players competing in the individual portion of the NCAA Division III Championships had a rough time this weekend with only one win in six matches.

Spring All-SCIAC Teams Announced
The All-SCIAC teams for all eight spring sports have all been announced and CMS was well represented. 22 CMS athletes earned First Team All-SCIAC honors and 23 athletes earned Second Team All-SCIAC honors.

UC Santa Cruz defeated CMS by a 5-1 score to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals in St. Louis next week.

Stags Open NCAAs with 6-0 Win Over PLU; Next Up Santa Cruz
CMS Men's Tennis opened up NCAA Team Championship play with a convincing 6-0 victory over #3 seed Pacific Lutheran on Saturday. The Stags swept the doubles without losing serve in any of the the three matches, highlighted by sophomores Guillaume Schils (Shaker Heights, OH) and Lawrence Wang (Orange, CA) defeating Ojai champs David Miller and Justin Larimore 8-5 at the #1 position.

Stags Go Deep Into Ojai Draws
The Stags enter this weekend's team championships after another strong showing at the Ojai Valley Tournament . CMS had five (5) singles players reach the round of 16, three (3) reach the quarterfinals, and one (1) reach the semifinals. In the doubles, each of the Stags top three pairs advanced to the quarters, with defending champs and top seeds Guillaume Schils (Shaker Heights, OH) and Lawrence Wang (Orange, CA) advancing to the semis.

The men's and women's tennis teams had 10 players selected to the recently named All-SCIAC teams including six on the First Team and four on the Second Team.

Stags Win Second Straight SCIAC Title
The men's tennis team defeated Occidental 6-0 and Redlands 9-0 on Saturday to win the SCIAC Tournament and their second consecutive (and 15th overall) conference title.

Stags Win SCIAC Tourney and Extend Conference Win Streak to 21
CMS Men's Tennis defeated Occidental 6-0, and then Redlands 9-0, to win the SCIAC Tournament and their second consecutive outright conference title. The two wins on Saturday extended the Stags' conference win streak to twenty-one, which include a win at the end of the 2005 season and two perfect 10-0 conference records in 2006 and 2007.

Stags Advance to SCIAC Semis
CMS Men's Tennis defeated Caltech 5-0 on Friday, in a SCIAC Tournament first round match interrupted by rain twice. The match was originally scheduled for 9:00 AM but ultimately got underway at 2:30 PM due to rainy weather.

Stags Conclude Regular Season On Roll
The men's tennis team concluded their regular season schedule with 9-0 wins over Pomona-Pitzer and Chapman University on Saturday. The wins improved the team's record to 22-6 overall and 7-0 in SCIAC play.

Stags Stay Undefeated in SCIAC with 9-0 Win Over Oxy
CMS Men's Tennis improved its SCIAC record to 5-0, and overall record to 19-6 with a 9-0 victory over Occidental on Friday afternoon. The Stags did not drop a set in singles and earned their fifth consecutive doubles sweep in conference play.

Stags Narrowly Fall to Santa Cruz in Last of Three in NorCal
In the battle for #1 in Division III, UC Santa Cruz escaped with a 5-4 win at home against CMS, in the finale of a three match NorCal road trip against tough competition. The Stags also dropped matches to sixth-ranked NAIA opponent Fresno Pacific University 7-2, and Division I opponent UC Davis 4-3 in the lead up to the match with Santa Cruz.

Stags Defeat #6 Williams 8-1
CMS Men's Tennis took an important step forward in it's quest to be the best team in Div III by defeating sixth ranked Williams College by an 8-1 score on Saturday. The Stags continued their consistent doubles play by sweeping all three positions to get out to an early 3-0 lead.

CMS Gets Wins over #7 Trinity and MSU - Billings
CMS Men's Tennis moved to 16-3 on the season with wins over #7 ranked Trinity University and Div II foe Montana State University - Billings. The Stags got off to a good start by winning all three doubles matches against Trinity.

CMS Captures Inaugural Stag-Hen Title
CMS defeated both Washington University in St. Louis and Emory University to capture the innaugural Stag-Hen Invitational on Saturday. CMS won 7-2 against Wash U to reach the tournament final, and then knocked off second ranked and 2006 NCAA team champion Emory 5-4 to take the title.

CMS, Washington University in St. Louis, Kalamazoo, and Emory all advanced in their respective groups in the first day of play at the innaugural Stag-Hen Invitational.

Stags Down Nationally Ranked Foe
The men's tennis team defeated 11th-ranked University of Mary Washington by a score of 6-3 on Wednesday. The Stags, playing their first dual match in ten days, had to rally from a 2-1 deficit after the doubles to secure the victory.

Stags Fall to Slugs in ITA Indoor Final
CMS Men's Tennis lost in the final of the ITA National Indoors to west region rival UC Santa Cruz on Sunday. The Stags lost by a surprising 9-0 margin, as the Slugs captured their second ITA Indoor title.

Stags Reach Final of National Indoors
CMS Men's Tennis defeated #2 seed and host Gustavus Adolphus College 5-4 in the semifinals of the ITA National Indoors in St. Peter, MN on Saturday. The Stags again led by sophomore Lawrence Wang (Orange, CA), who won at second doubles with partner Guillaume Schils (Shaker Heights, OH), and then won at #1 singles. The Stags trailed 2-1 after the doubles and then rallied to win four of six singles for the victory.

Stags Defeat La Verne 9-0 in SCIAC Play
CMS travelled to the University of La Verne for a SCIAC conference match on Saturday, where they won 9-0. The Stags swept the doubles and then lost only eight games in singles to earn the dual match win. With the victory, the Stags move to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in SCIAC.

Cal Baptist Edges Stags 5-4
CMS travelled to Cal Baptist University to take on the #21 ranked NAIA team in an afternoon match, where they lost a hard fought 5-4 decision. The Stags took an early 2-1 lead after the doubles when #1 pair Ben Hough (Spokane, WA) and Jack DePaolo (Asheville, NC) won the final six points of the tie-breaker to earn a 9-8(3) win.

The men's tennis team won two matches Saturday, defeating conference opponent Whittier College 9-0 in the morning, and then Loyola Marymount 6-1 in the afternoon.

CMS Men's Tennis played a rare Friday doubleheader, and split matches against Caltech and Azusa Pacific University. CMS won 9-0 against SCIAC opponent Caltech, and then lost 6-3 to APU.

The men's tennis team opened up SCIAC play on the road Saturday at Cal Lutheran with an 8-1 win. Later in the afternoon they traveled to Westmont where wind and rain cut short the match with CMS ahead 3-0.

The CMS tennis teams are both the top ranked teams in the West Region in the Fall ITA/Fila Division III Tennis Rankings with the men's team ranked third nationally and the women's team ranked fourth in the nation.

Settles Earns Two USTA/ITA Awards
Men's tennis coach Paul Settles has won the Unites States Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Community Service Award and Campus Recreation Award for the Southern California section. Settles was the only sectional winner of both awards this year.

Stags Win National Titles In Singles/Doubles
Claremont McKenna College student-athletes William Ellison ’07 and David Oehm ’07 have won the Division III men’s doubles title at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III national championships in Fort Myers, Fla. Freshman Mike Starr (HMC ’10) also won the Division III Men’s Singles Championship, and then advanced to the final of the Small College “Super Bowl” during the Oct. 11-14 event, making him the first Division III male to reach the final since 1994.

Starr, Ellison and Oehm Win ITA Regional Titles
Unseeded seventeen year-old Harvey Mudd College freshman Mike Starr (San Ramon, CA) capped an auspicious collegiate tennis debut by winning the Wilson / ITA West Regional singles final 6-1, 6-4 over teammate William Ellison (Shaker Heights, OH) on Sunday. Ellison then partnered David Oehm (Menlo Park, CA) to win the doubles title, giving CMS it's first ever sweep of the singles and doubles crowns at the Wilson / ITA West Regionals.
