Stags Tennis Recruiting Class Ranked Best in D3
TennisRecruiting.net has ranked CMS as having the best recruiting class in Division III for the Class of 2011. The recruiting website also ranked CMS' incoming class as 7th best among mid-major programs nationally. The Stags' 2011 class includes three student-athletes from the San Diego area: five-star recruit Warren Wood (La Jolla Country Day), and four-star recruits Cameron Bernhardt (Rancho Bernardo HS) and Nikolas Marino (Francis Parker HS).

Men's Tennis Finishes Strong at NCAAs
CMS' Zhenya Pereverzin (Fr. - Clackamas, OR) and Ronald Wu (Sr. - Los Altos, CA) [pictured left to right] concluded the 2011 season with a run to the NCAA doubles final, defeating teams from Middlebury, Johns Hopkins, and Amherst before falling to Bowdoin's Steven Sullivan and Oscar Pena in the championship match.

Bringing It Back Home
CMS Stags Tennis staged a dramatic comeback to defeat #4 UC Santa Cruz 5-3 in the NCAA West Regional Final on Saturday. Sophomore Alex Johnson (Thousand Oaks, CA) fought back from a 1-5, love-forty deficit and saved six match points in the third set to provide the match clinching victory at #3 singles. CMS advances to the NCAA Elite Eight for the second straight year and third in the last four.

Stags Stop #6 PLNU in Regular Season Finale
Sophomore Alex Lane (Claremont, CA [pictured]) earned a match-clinching three-set win at #1 singles to give CMS a 5-4 victory over 6th ranked Point Loma Nazarene on Thursday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. CMS finishes the regular season with a 25-3 record and await the NCAA pairings on Monday.

Lane Wins Ojai Singles Title
Sophomore Alex Lane (Claremont, CA) captured the Ojai Division III singles title on Sunday defeating UC Santa Cruz's Brian Pybas. Lane became the second Stag in three years to capture the prestigious singles title and is all but assured of holding the #1 singles ranking in the West Region when the new rankings are released.

Men's Tennis Wins Sixth Straight SCIAC Title
CMS Men's Tennis won it's sixth straight outright SCIAC title on Saturday, as the Stags defeated 8th ranked Pomona-Pitzer 8-1. CMS swept the doubles and then won five of six singles to earn their 57th straight conference match. The Stags were led by All-SCIAC selections pictured left to right Russell Brockett (Sr. - Austin, TX), Robbie Erani (Jr. - New York, NY), Ronald Wu (Sr. Capt -Los Altos, CA), Alex Johnson (So. - Thousand Oaks, CA), and Alex Lane (So. - Claremont, CA)

Stags Advance to SCIAC Final
CMS Stags Tennis advanced to the final of the SCIAC Championships on Friday with a 7-2 win over #19 Cal Lutheran. The Stags will face #8 Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center, just a week after defeating the Sagehens in the last regular season conference dual match.

Men's Tennis Wins at #8 Pomona-Pitzer
Sophomore Alex Johnson (Thousand Oaks, CA [pictured]) got the clinching straight set victory at #3 singles, as CMS won the battle of undefeated SCIAC teams and defeated #8 Pomona-Pitzer by an 8-1 margin on Saturday. The Stags close out the conference regular season 6-0 and enter the SCIAC tournament next Friday as the top seeded team.

CMS Defeats #16 Redlands 8-1
CMS Stags Tennis improved its conference record to 5-0 with an 8-1 victory over 16th ranked Redlands on Saturday. Sophomore Alex Lane (Claremont, CA[pictured]) earned wins at #1 singles and #2 doubles.The Stags were impressive in recording their fifth straight doubles sweep against one of the best doubles teams in the country.

Stags Win Two Against Oxy and Pacific Lutheran
CMS Stags Tennis moved to 20-3 overall and 4-0 in conference after defeating Occidental 8-1 and Pacific Lutheran 9-0 on Friday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. CMS was led by Alex Lane (So. - Claremont, CA), Matt Ellis (So. - Mercer Island, WA) and Andrew Duckworth (Jr. - Lake Forest, IL), all of whom won singles matches without losing a game.

Men's Tennis Wins at #18 Cal Lutheran
Senior Captain Ronald Wu (Los Altos, CA [pictured]) won at #1 doubles and #4 singles, as CMS won a tough 6-3 decision at #18 Cal Lutheran on Saturday. Wu won his team leading 14th singles dual match of the spring and 17th of the year, and partnered with Zhenya Pereverzin (Fr. - Clackamas, OR) for the Stags' #1 team's fourth straight dual match win.

Stags Blank Whittier 9-0
Victor Chien (Jr. - Diamond Bar, CA [pictured]) was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at #6 singles, as CMS won it's second SCIAC dual match of the season on Friday at home against Whittier. Chien earned his fourth dual match win of the spring and the Stags did not drop a set in singles play.

Stags 7-2 Winners Over Gustavus
CMS' #1 doubles team Ronald Wu (Sr. Capt - Los Altos, CA) and Zhenya Pereverzin (Fr. - Clackamas, OR) won their seventh match as a tandem, and then went on to win easily at #4 and #6 singles respectively, as the Stags defeated 30th ranked Gustavus Adolphus College by a 7-2 margin. CMS is now 16-3 on the season and ranked #3 nationally in Division III.

Men's Tennis Beats #5 Wash U
Robbie Erani (Jr. - New York, NY) and Russell Brockett (Sr. - Austin, TX) won at #3 doubles and at #3 and #4 singles to help CMS defeat #5 Washington University in St. Louis. The Stags' 6-3 victory at the Austin Tennis Academy on Sunday morning ended CMS' Texas swing on an up note. CMS went 2-1 on the trip, beating #11 Trinity and #5 Wash U, and losing to #6 UC Santa Cruz.

Stags Drop 5-4 Decision to UCSC in Texas
Sophomore Mac Cahill (Southport, CT [pictured right]) won his second singles match of CMS Men's Tennis' Texas trip, but the Stags were upset by #6 UC Santa Cruz 5-4 in San Antonio on Saturday. CMS played three three-setters in singles, with only Cahill coming away with a victory.

Stags Open Road Trip with 7-2 Win at Trinity
Senior Russell Brockett (Austin, TX [pictured right]) won at #3 doubles and #3 singles to lead CMS to a 7-2 win over Trinity in San Antonio on Friday. The Stags fell behind 2-1 after the doubles and then went on to win all but one set in the six singles matches that followed.

Stags Defeat #2 Amherst 6-3
Senior Captain Ronald Wu (Los Altos, CA [pictured right]) led CMS Men's Tennis to a 6-3 win over second ranked Amherst, winning at #1 doubles and #5 singles. Wu's straight set win gave CMS it's fourth point of the dual match, and extended his unbeaten streak to nine singles matches thus far this spring.

Men's Tennis Defeats Lafayette and Skidmore
Sophomore Alex Lane (Claremont, CA [pictured right]) won two singles and two doubles matches on Thursday to lead the Stags over Division I Lafayette College and #24 Skidmore. Lane surrendered only five games in two singles matches as CMS earned 9-0 and 8-1 wins to move to 11-2 on the season.

CMS Falls to Emory in Stag-Hen Final
CMS Mens Tennis lost in the final of the 2011 Stag-Hen on Saturday, falling to #4 Emory 7-2 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. CMS rebounded in the afternoon to defeat Haverford 6-3, behind the singles and doubles wins of sophomore Ernie Hayhurst (Amarillo, TX [pictured right]).

Men's Tennis Moves to 5-0 With Doubleheader Win
CMS Men's Tennis won against Brandeis and Chapman on Saturday, improving the Stags' record to 5-0. Sophomore Alex Lane (Claremont, CA [pictured right]) led CMS to a 7-2 victory over #30 Brandeis, winning at #1 singles and #2 doubles. Lane has yet to lose a set in singles or doubles thus far this season.

CMS Men's Tennis earned its third victory of 2011 on Monday afternoon, as the Stags completed an 8-1 rain delayed win over #5 Concordia University of NAIA. Freshman Zhenya Pereverzin (Clackamas, OR [pictured right]) won two matches in his debut dual match.

Stags Earn 50th Straight SCIAC Victory
CMS Stags Tennis won its 50th consecutive SCIAC match on Saturday with a 9-0 victory against Caltech in Pasadena. The streak, which began in 2005, is now in its seventh season and includes five consecutive outright conference championships. On Saturday, three new Stags - freshmen Neel Kotrappa (La Verne, CA), Frank Liu (Upland, CA) and junior Andrew Duckworth (Lake Forest, IL) - earned their first singles and doubles wins to lead CMS to its first conference win of 2011.

Men's Tennis Stops Westmont 6-3
The CMS Men's Tennis Team won it's season opener by a 6-3 margin against Westmont College on Friday. Sophomore Matt Ellis (Mercer Island, WA [pictured]) earned a 6-0, 6-3 win at #6 singles to give the Stags their first lead in the dual match. Trailing 2-1 after the doubles, CMS won five of six singles against the 8th ranked team in NAIA.

Ducey Cup Kicks Off Men's Tennis Season
Thirty CMS Stags Tennis Alums were on hand to participate in the annual Ducey Cup Alumni Match on Saturday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. Former men's tennis greats including (pictured above from left to right) Pete Welsh (CMC '50), Jim Enstrom (HMC '65), Bill Konya (HMC '83), Stephen Poorman (CMC '83), and Jack Newman (CMC '83) participated in morning doubles matches. In an afternoon dual match, the Stags defeated the Alums by a 9-4 score in thirteen pro-set matches.

Pre-Season Rankings Have CMS Among Nation's Elite
CMS is ranked #3 Nationally and #1 in the West according to the Campbell's / ITA Division III Rankings released on November 4. The Stags placed four singles players in the top fifty national pre-season rankings, and one doubles team in the top ten.

Johnson, Erani and Wu Reach ITA Regional Finals
Sophomore Alex Johnson (Thousand Oaks, CA), reached his first ITA singles final on Sunday by winning five weekend matches and defeating two higher seeds before falling to Cal Lutheran's Nick Ballou in the championship match. Johnson's teammates Robbie Erani (Jr. - New York, NY) and Ronald Wu (Sr. - Los Altos, CA) reached their second consecutive ITA doubles final, coming up short in a tough two-set match to second seeded Parker Larsen and Brian Pybas of UC Santa Cruz.
