Wood Wins ITA National Rookie of the Year Award
Warren Wood (Fr. - Del Mar, CA) became the first player in CMS Stags Tennis history to be named the ITA National Rookie of the Year. Wood, who played #1 singles and #1 doubles for most of the 2012 season, was presented the award at the NCAA Division III Tennis Banquet in Cary, N.C. on Wednesday night.

Stags Move On To Elite 8 With 5-1 Win Over #6 Santa Cruz
CMS Stags Tennis advanced to its third straight NCAA Elite 8 with a 5-1 win over sixth ranked UC Santa Cruz on Saturday. After saving four match points at #3 doubles, the Stags' Neel Kotrappa (So. - La Verne, CA) and Brandon Wei (Sr. - Lake Oswego, OR[pictured right]) won a 9-8(6) tie-break to give their teammates a 2-1 advantage from which they would never look back.

CMS Stags Tennis won a 5-1 decision over 7th ranked Cal Lutheran in second round NCAA action on Friday and will face #6 UC Santa Cruz in the west region final Saturday. Freshman Nik Marino (San Diego, CA [pictured right]) won at #2 doubles and then provided the clinching singles victory at #4.

Stags Tennis Wins Seventh Straight SCIAC Title
CMS Stags Tennis completed its seventh consecutive perfect SCIAC season with a 6-3 triumph over #9 Pomona-Pitzer in the conference tournament final at Redlands on Saturday. Senior captain Robbie Erani (New York, NY) led the Stags with wins at #1 doubles and #3 singles, as CMS won its 65th straight conference match.

Stags Stop #7 Middlebury 6-3
Warren Wood (Fr. - Del Mar, CA) and Neel Kotrappa (So. - La Verne, CA) each won twice, to lead CMS Stags Tennis a 6-3 win over #7 Middlebury on Friday. Wood earned a come-from-behind 8-6 win at #1 doubles with first time partner Nik Marino (Fr. - San Diego, CA), then went on to win in two easy sets at #1 singles. Kotrappa and partner Brandon Wei (Sr. - Lake Oswego, OR) won their ninth straight at #2 doubles, and then Kotrappa toughed out a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win at #5 singles for the Stags' last point of the afternoon.

CMS In Stag-Hen Final After Two 5-4 Wins
CMS defeated #4 Johns Hopkins and #14 Bowdoin to advance to Saturday's final of the Stag-Hen Inviational, where they will face undefeated #2 Emory. The Stags were led by their top duo, Warren Wood (Fr. - Del Mar, CA) and Alex Lane (Jr. - Claremont, CA), won won twice as a doubles team and twice at #1 and #2 singles respectively.

Seventh ranked UC Santa Cruz held on for a 6-3 victory over #4 CMS in a battle of West Region rivals on Saturday. Two of the three Stags points were earned by sophomore Neel Kotrappa (La Verne, CA), who won at #2 doubles and #6 singles.

Men's Tennis Ousts Vassar, Falls to Swarthmore
Sophomore Neel Kotrappa (La Verne, CA) had a key role in three match wins on Thursday, as CMS Stags Tennis defeated Vassar 8-1 and then fell to Swarthmore 5-4. Kotrappa's 6-2, 6-2 victory at #5 singles against Swarthmore pushed his record to 7-3 on the season. He and partner Brandon Wei (Sr. - Lake Oswego, OR) also won at #2 and #3 doubles against Vassar and Swarthmore respectively.

CMS Sweeps Caltech and Bates
Junior Mac Cahill (Southport, CT) had victories at #1 singles against Caltech and #6 singles against Bates to lead the Stags to a pair of wins on Saturday. CMS surrendered only seven total games in a 9-0 win over Caltech in the morning, before stopping #26 Bates by a 7-2 margin in the afternoon.

Ducey Cup Celebrates Four Decades of Stags Tennis
Twenty-two Stags Tennis Alums spanning four decades participated in the Ducey Cup on Saturday, marking the traditional beginning to CMS' 2012 season. Morning doubles play preceded a friendly afternoon dual match in which the current Stags narrowly edged the Alums 3-2 in eight pro-sets.

Settles Earns USTA / ITA Sectional Award
Head men's tennis coach Paul Settles has won the Unites States Tennis Association (USTA) / Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) 2011 Campus and Community Outreach Award for the Southern California section. Settles is one of two award winners in the section, and among fourteen nation wide.

Alex Lane (Jr. - Claremont, CA) won two of three matches at the USTA / ITA Division III National Championships in Mobile, AL. Lane won in three sets in the quarters, lost in three in the semis, and then won his final match in straight sets to claim third place in the eight-man nationals field.

Lane Wins Singles - Stags Dominate Regional
Junior Alex Lane (Claremont, CA [pictured left]) defeated teammate Alex Johnson (SO - Thousand Oaks, CA [pictured right]) to win the USTA / ITA Division III West Regionals at CMS on Sunday. CMS had six singles players reach the quarterfinals, and three reach the semis, in addition to the all-CMS final. Lane also reached the doubles final with partner Warren Wood (FR - Del Mar, CA), as CMS had three doubles pairs in the quarters, and two of the four semifinalists.
