Redlands 5, Texas-Dallas 0

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The 2013 NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championships got underway on the campus of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Friday, May 10. The first round match paired the No.4 seed University of Redlands Bulldogs against No.5 seed UT Dallas Comets. Redlands won 5-0 over UT Dallas.

The University of Redlands’ doubles team of Gram Leahy and Patrick Lipscomb defeated the Comets Casey Clark and Dustin Foster 8-5. Nick Cummins and Connor Hyde of Redlands defeated Byron Cole and Bryan Leib in the second match, 8-1. The Bulldogs finished off doubles play with Max Licona and Teddy Jones defeating Dennis Roy and Ian Lucio in a tight match, 9-7.

In singles, the Bulldogs needed just two out of the six matches to advance. Redlands’ Hunt defeated the Comets’ Leib (6-1, 6-2). On court 1, Clark from UT Dallas, fell to Redlands Lipscomb (6-3, 6-1) to win the opening round match.

Redlands will face No.1 seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday May 11, at 10:00 AM PST.
