National ITA preseason rankings have CMS Stags at No. 2, Athenas at No. 5
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its NCAA Division III preseason rankings on Oct. 30 and both Claremont-Mudd-Scripps teams are in the top-5, with the men ranked No. 2 and the women ranked No. 5 in their respective polls.

Hull finishes seventh at ITA Small College Nationals
Sophomore Glenn Hull (Brookings, OR) was a straight set winner over Gustavus Aldophus College's Motasem Al-Houni on Saturday to claim seventh place at the USTA/ITA Small College National Championships in Sumter, South Carolina.

Hull continues tradition of Stags participating in Small College Championships
Over the course of the last two weeks, sophomore Glenn Hull of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s tennis team has gone from relative unknown on the national level prior to the ITA Small College Regionals, to the No. 4 seed heading into the Small College National Championships, which begin on Thursday, Oct. 9 in Sumter, S.C.

CMS' Hull crowned king of the west
Stags sophomore Glenn Hull (Brookings, OR) defeated each of the top three seeds en route to the USTA / ITA West Region singles title. The unseeded Hull defeated third seed Moises Cardenas of Cal Lutheran in the quarters, teammate and top seed Warren Wood (Sr. Captain - Del Mar, CA) in the semis, and teammate and second seed Nik Marino (Sr. Captain - San Diego, CA) in the championship match. Hull advances to the USTA / ITA National Small College Championships in Sumter, South Carolina October 9-12.

ITA tabs four from Stags Tennis as All-Americans
With four individuals being selected as Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Americans, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s tennis team tied with two other schools (Middlebury and Trinity) with the most selections to the ITA All-America Teams, the ITA announced on June 11.

Ellison named ITA West Region and National Assistant Coach of the Year
Prior to the NCAA Division III men's tennis championship match on May 21, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its national award winners and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s tennis assistant coach William Ellison has been named the National Assistant Coach of the Year in addition to earning West Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors earlier this month.

Men's tennis finishes as D-III national runner-up
In the final match of the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps lost a heartbreaker to second ranked Amherst 5-3. With the win, Amherst becomes national champions for the second time since 2011 and completes their season with a 36-3 overall record. CMS becomes the runner up for the seventh time in program history and second consecutive year, and finishes with the best overall record in program history of 30-2.

CMS advances to NCAA title match with win over Middlebury
In the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championships, the top ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s tennis team fought their way to a 5-2 victory over Middlebury on May 20 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. Middlebury is now 21-4 and plays Trinity on May 21 at 10:00 a.m. in the third place match. CMS improves to 30-1 on the season and advances to the finals for the second straight year in a row where they will face Amherst on May 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

In the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championships, top ranked CMS fought their way to a 5-3 win over Johns Hopkins on May 19 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. CMS improves their overall record to 29-1 and advances to the semifinals where they will play Middlebury College on May 20 at 11:00 a.m. while Johns Hopkins concludes their season with an overall record of 20-5.

#1 CMS Stags Tennis won its ninth consecutive SCIAC title with an emphatic 9-0 win over #10 Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at the Matador Courts of Cal State Northridge. The SCIAC tournament title marked the Stags' 85th straight win in conference without a loss, a streak dating back to 2005.

One of the best of Division III met one of the best of Division I on Tuesday in Westwood, as #3 UCLA defeated #3 CMS 4-0. The Stags returned to Claremont in the afternoon to defeat Pacific University 9-0, improving their record to 15-1 on the season.

Butts reigns as ITA West Region singles champ
CMS' Skyler Butts (So. - Santa Ana, CA) claimed the USTA / ITA West Region singles title, defeating Whittier's David Konstantinov 7-6(5), 6-3 on Sunday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. Seeded eighth, Butts won six matches on the weekend, including three matches against fellow teammates, to give CMS its third straight USTA / ITA West Region singles title, and fourth in the last five years.

Stags Strong in Ojai, Reach Singles and Doubles Finals
Senior Alex Lane (Claremont, CA) and sophomores Warren Wood (Del Mar, CA) and Joe Dorn (Washington D.C.) reached the singles and doubles finals respectively of the 113th Ojai Valley Tournament which concluded on Sunday. It was Lane's third consecutive Ojai final, having won the singles title in 2011 and the doubles title in 2012 (with partner Robbie Erani), while Wood and Dorn were making their first appearance in an Ojai final.

Stags Fall to PLNU - Compete at Pacific Coast Doubles
CMS Men's Tennis lost a 5-4 decision at NAIA's #7 Point Loma Nazarene and then went on to compete at the 123rd annual Pacific Coast Doubles Championships, rounding out a weekend against strong non-Division III opponents.

CMS Sweeps Caltech and Bates
Junior Mac Cahill (Southport, CT) had victories at #1 singles against Caltech and #6 singles against Bates to lead the Stags to a pair of wins on Saturday. CMS surrendered only seven total games in a 9-0 win over Caltech in the morning, before stopping #26 Bates by a 7-2 margin in the afternoon.

Freshman Nik Marino (San Diego, CA [pictured right]) won at #5 singles and #3 doubles to lead CMS Stags Tennis to an 8-1 victory over Washington & Lee on Friday. Marino and partner Brandon Wei (Sr. - Lake Oswego, OR) were part of a doubles sweep for CMS by winning 8-6 at #3. Marino then put the Stags up 4-0 with his 6-0, 6-1 win at #5 singles.

Ducey Cup Celebrates Four Decades of Stags Tennis
Twenty-two Stags Tennis Alums spanning four decades participated in the Ducey Cup on Saturday, marking the traditional beginning to CMS' 2012 season. Morning doubles play preceded a friendly afternoon dual match in which the current Stags narrowly edged the Alums 3-2 in eight pro-sets.

Head men's tennis coach Paul Settles has won the Unites States Tennis Association (USTA) / Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) 2011 Campus and Community Outreach Award for the Southern California section. Settles is one of two award winners in the section, and among fourteen nation wide.

Lane Finshes 3rd at Small College Nationals
Alex Lane (Jr. - Claremont, CA) won two of three matches at the USTA / ITA Division III National Championships in Mobile, AL. Lane won in three sets in the quarters, lost in three in the semis, and then won his final match in straight sets to claim third place in the eight-man nationals field.

Lane Wins Singles - Stags Dominate Regional
Junior Alex Lane (Claremont, CA [pictured left]) defeated teammate Alex Johnson (SO - Thousand Oaks, CA [pictured right]) to win the USTA / ITA Division III West Regionals at CMS on Sunday. CMS had six singles players reach the quarterfinals, and three reach the semis, in addition to the all-CMS final. Lane also reached the doubles final with partner Warren Wood (FR - Del Mar, CA), as CMS had three doubles pairs in the quarters, and two of the four semifinalists.

CMS' Alex Lane (JR - Claremont, CA) and the team of Zhenya Pereverzin (SO - Clackamas, OR) and Brandon Wei (SR - Lake Oswego, OR) are the top seeds respectively in singles and doubles for this weekend's USTA / ITA West Regional Championships.
