Lisa Hankerd returns for her second year on the CMS Softball coaching staff. During her collegiate career she was a member of two UCLA National Championship teams in 1985 and 1988. A three sport athlete at South Hills High School in Covina, CA, Coach Hankerd elected to play softball for the Bruins and had a stellar career as a middle infielder playing in three national championship games and being awarded All-Tournament honors at the 1987 Women’s College World Series.
She graduated from UCLA in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. After graduating, Coach Hankerd returned to Covina and started managing her family construction business with her father and brothers. The construction business is still operating out of Covina.
In 2001, Coach Hankerd returned to school at Mount San Antonio Junior College, where she earned an Associate of Science degree in fire technology. She continued in their program and graduated from the school’s Fire Academy in July 2005.
From 2001-2006 Coach Hankerd was a volunteer firefighter in Mira Loma at station 17. She resigned when her father passed away in 2006. Since 2006, Coach Hankerd has led the instruction for the Mt SAC Fire Academy Physical Training module.
Coach Hankerd’s diverse background will bring a playing pedigree, physical toughness, and a commitment to the team-first concept to the Athenas.
