Schils and Wang Win NCAA Doubles Championship
Gui Schils (JR, Shaker Heights, OH) and Larry Wang (JR, Orange) won the NCAA Division III Men's Doubles Championship on Sunday with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Andy Bryan/Charlie Paukert of Gustavus Adolphus. This is the first title for both and CMS' fifth doubles championship.

Stags Finish Third At NCAA Championships
The men's tennis team finished third at the NCAA Division III Championships with a hard fought 5-4 win over Middlebury College. CMS (27-8) earned the 10th top three finish in their history.

CMS Defeats Williams 5-2 To Advance To NCAA Semis
CMS advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships with a 5-2 win over Williams College. CMS avenged a 7-2 loss earlier this season to Williams and improved to 26-7 overall.

Hough Named SCIAC Athlete Of The Week
Ben Hough (SR, Spokane, WA) has been selected SCIAC Athlete of the Week for the week of April 28 - May 3. He went 4-0 in his singles and doubles matches to help the Stags advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships.

Stags Move on to NCAA Quarterfinals with Win Over #1 Santa Cruz
CMS Men's Tennis advanced to the NCAA Division III Team Championship Quarterfinals on Sunday with a thrilling 5-3 victory over #1 ranked UC Santa Cruz. Senior captain Ben Hough (Spokane, WA) stayed perfect on the weekend by earning two more wins, and the Stags won the final match at CMS' Marks and Smith Courts in dramatic fashion.

CMS Mens Tennis advanced to the third round of the NCAA Team Championship with a 5-1 win over Whitman College at CMS Marks and Smith Courts on Saturday. The Stags were paced by senior captain Ben Hough (Spokane, WA [pictured right]), who had wins at #2 doubles and #6 singles.

Stags To Host Second And Third Rounds Of NCAA Championships
The SCIAC Champion Stags have been selected to host the second and third round of the NCAA Championships this weekend. Two matches will take place on Saturday with the winners facing off on Sunday. All three matches will take place at the Smith and Marks Courts on the CMC campus.

SCIAC Champions Times Three
CMS Mens Tennis earned its third straight outright SCIAC title on Saturday, with an 8-1 win over Redlands in the championship match. The Stags extended their conference unbeaten streak to 31 dual matches with the title and earn an automatic qualification spot in the NCAA tournament.

Stags Tennis Wins One for the Ages
In what will be remembered as one of the most dramatic wins in CMS Mens Tennis history, the Stags came back from a 4-0 deficit against #1 ranked UC Santa Cruz and pulled off the impossible, winning five straight singles matches to earn a 5-4 victory and re-establish themselves as one of the top teams in Division III mens tennis.

Stags Sweep Again for 4th Straight Win
CMS Stags Tennis made it back-to-back doubleheader sweeps by beating Occidental and Chapman by 9-0 scores on Saturday. Junior Drew Sabater (Claremont, CA [pictured]) won his second singles match in as many days and improved his record to 13-4 on the season. Sabater played #2 singles on Saturday, after playing at #5 on Friday.

Mens Tennis Sweeps Friday Doubleheader
CMS Stags Tennis returned to its home courts on Friday and notched a 9-0 SCIAC win against La Verne and a thrilling 5-4 win over 14th ranked NAIA opponent Concordia University. The win over La Verne was the Stags 26th consecutive in conference.

Stags Fall to #3 Wash U
CMS Stags Tennis concluded its three match road trip in Texas with a 7-2 loss to Washington University (St. Louis) on Sunday. The Stags completed a week where they played five top ten teams in six days. CMS began the week in Claremont, with wins over #5 Middlebury and #1 Gustavus Adolphus, and then traveled to San Antonio and Austin, where they fell to #8 Trinity University, #9 Williams, and #3 Wash U.

#9 Williams Outlasts Stags in Austin
#9 Williams College defeated the Stags 7-2 at the Austin Tennis Academy on Saturday. It was the second consecutive loss for CMS against a top ten nationally ranked foe, and match two of a three match road trip in Texas. The Stags suffered their first doubles sweep since the opening day of the season, despite being up a service break at positions one and three.

Mens Tennis Drop Opener in Texas
CMS Stags Tennis lost its opening match of a three match road trip in Texas against #8 Trinity University 6-3 on Friday. After two consecutive doubles sweeps in dual matches on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Stags managed to only win one of three doubles against Trinity. Juniors Guillaume Schils (Shaker Heights, OH) and Lawrence Wang (Orange, CA) won their second straight at #1, to improve to 8-4 as a team on the season.

CMS Stags Tennis got its second win in as many days over a top five nationally ranked team by defeating #1 ranked Gustavus Adolphus College 7-2 on Wednesday. Juniors Guillaume Schils (Jr. Shaker Heights, OH) and Lawrence Wang (Jr. Orange, CA), were reunited at #1 doubles and won in a tie-break to give the Stags their second consecutive doubles sweep.

CMS Stags Tennis got an important 6-3 win over 5th ranked Middlebury College on Tuesday, to begin a week where the Stags play five (5) teams ranked nationally in the top nine (9) in a period of six days. CMS was led by three-time All-American Lawrence Wang (Jr. Orange, CA [pictured]), who won at #1 singles and #1 doubles.

Stags take 3rd at Invitational
CMS Stags Tennis took third place in Stag-Hen Invitational after losing a 5-4 semifinal match to 12th ranked Kenyon and then defeating 11th ranked Bowdoin 5-2 in the rain-shortened third / fourth play-off. Trinity University and Kenyon were declared co-champs of the tournament when rain forced the two teams to abandon the match with Trinity leading 4-2 in matches.

CMS Stags Tennis advanced to the semi-finals of the Stag-Hen Invitational with a 7-2 victory over UT-Tyler on Friday. The Stags were paced by two wins by sophomore Mikey Lim (Honolulu, HI - pictured), who won at #3 doubles and #1 singles. Earlier in the day, the Stags were 9-0 winners over Lake Forest.

CMS Stags Tennis added two more 9-0 victories over Caltech and Westmont on Saturday to conclude a four match sweep. The win against Caltech puts the Stags at 3-0 in the SCIAC and extends their conference winning streak to twenty-four (24) matches, while the victory over Westmont is their second against an NAIA opponent this season.

CMS Stags Tennis opened its 2008 campaign with losses to two nationally ranked NAIA teams on Saturday. The Stags lost 8-1 to Point Loma Nazarene in the first match of the double header, then fell 7-2 to Cal Baptist in the late afternoon match.

Stag-Hen Invitational Field Set
Defending Champions Claremont-Mudd-Scripps leads a field of six nationally ranked teams in the 2nd Annual Stag-Hen Invitational co-hosted by the CMS and Pomona-Pitzer men's tennis teams. The Stag-Hen will feature CMS (ranked #4 nationally), Trinity University (#9), Bowdoin (#10), Whitman (#15), Kenyon (#23), The College of New Jersey (#25), Pomona-Pitzer (#8 West Region), and UT Tyler (#12 West Region).

Stags #4 in Pre-Season Rankings
CMS Men's Tennis is ranked #4 nationally among Division III teams according to the the fall 2007 pre-season poll. Despite only losing to one Div III team - NCAA Champions UC Santa Cruz - in 2007, the Stags enter the polls behind #1 UCSC, #2 Emory University and #3 Middlebury College.

CMS To Host 2009 NCAA Division III Mens Tennis Championships
NCAA Assistant Director of Championships Russ Yurk announced today that CMS will be the host site for the 2009 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships. The event will be a showcase for the Biszantz Family Tennis Center on which construction will begin this fall.

Settles Earns Two USTA/ITA Awards
Men's tennis coach Paul Settles has won the Unites States Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Community Service Award and Campus Recreation Award for the Southern California section. Settles was the only sectional winner of both awards this year.
