Stags Win 17th Straight Title, Athenas Edged For Championship

The men's track & field team won their 17th straight SCIAC Championship on Saturday night while the women's team came up just short of a title. The men scored 192 to win by 56 points and the women scored 129 points to finish second by just two.
Seven CMS athletes won SCIAC titles at the meet including a
double win for Evelyn Ross (JR, Iowa City, IA). She won the
1500 meters and the 3000 steeplechase for the second consecutive
year. Also repeating as champions in their events were Ryan
Martin (SR, Redondo Beach) in the 400 meters, Jeff Clark (JR, Los
Altos) in the high jump and Warren Brown-Pounds (SO, Bow, WA) in
the pole vault. Kathleen Harris (JR, Bremerton, WA) won the
800 meters, Taylor Berliant (FR, Sudbury, MA) won the shot
put and Andrew Bogrand (JR, Portland, OR) won the javelin
throw.
SCIAC Runner-Ups for the women included Taylor Smiley (FR, Beaverton, OR) in the 5000 meters and Mary Moore (JR, Yamhill, OR) in both the javelin and hammer throws. Runner-ups for the men included Florian Scheulen (SO, Encinitas) in the steeplechase, Brian Kopczynski (FR, Coto de Caza) in the 5000 meters, Matt Streshinsky (FR, Laguna Niguel) in the pole vault, Clark in the triple jump and Grant Heffernan (FR, Newport Beach) in both the shot put and discus throw.
40 of the 64 CMS athletes entered in the meet scored in at least one event (scoring athletes pictured) including eight firsts, nine seconds, 16 thirds, 11 fourths, 10 fifths and nine seconds.
