12th Annual Rossi Relays

CMS hosted the 12th annual Rossi Relays on Saturday and had another successful turnout. Over 500 athletes from 17 schools (Division I, II, III and NAIA) participated in the meet.  Despite the unusual headwind for the sprints and jumps and rain falling in the later part of the meet, five meet records were set along with one stadium record.

The performance of the meet was turned in by Azusa Pacific's Aron Rono.  He set a meet and stadium record in the 3000 meters of 8:12.83 and won by almost 30 seconds.

Double winners at the meet included USC's Shalina Clark and Kai Kelley.  Both athletes swept the hurdle races with Kelley setting a meet record in the 110 high hurdles (14.12).   UC San Diego's Whitney Johnson won both the women's long and triple jumps.

Other athletes setting meet records included Solange Witteveen (unattached) in the women's high jump (5-9.75),  Leslie Coons (unattached) in the women's hammer throw (213-04) and Azusa Pacific's Jamie Canterbury in the 3000 meters (9:48.45).  Canterbury's time was also an APU school record.

CMS won two events at the meet: Jeff Clark (JR, Los Altos) won the high jump at 6-6 and the team of Matt Ezer (JR, Honolulu, HI), Kevin Williams (SR, Oakland), Ryan Martin (SR, Redondo Beach) and Georgi Dinolov (FR, Capitola) won the sprint medley relay in 3:37.4.
