CMS Sweeps SCIAC Top Four Meet

The CMS men and women won the SCIAC Top Four meet for the fourth year in a row on March 14. The men scored 100 points and the women scored 82.5. The teams combined to win 20 of the 38 events in the meet. Three athletes achieved NCAA qualifying marks including Taylor Berliant (SO, Sudbury, MA [pictured]) in the hammer throw (179-8), Jeff Clark (SR, Los Altos) in the high jump (6-8) and Andrew Bogrand (SR, Portland, OR) in the javelin throw (191-6).
Berliant, Clark and Dillon Ayers (SO, Eureka) were two-event winners for the Stags. Berliant also won the shot put with a personal best of 50-6.25 while Clark won the triple jump with a mark of 45-4.5. Ayers won the 800 and 1500 meters with personal best times of 1:57.59 and 3:57.67 respectively. Other event winners for the men included Brian Kopczynski (SO, Coto de Caza) in the steeplechase (PB 9:39.65), Matt Streshinsky (SO, Laguna Niguel) in the pole vault (14-5.5) and the 4 x 100 (Jon Hubbard (JR, Pasadena), Mike Carroll (FR, Petaluma), Noah Goldberg (SR, Seattle, WA), Matt Ezer (SR, Honolulu, HI) and 4 x 400 (Hubbard-Carroll-Dan Olmsted (SO, Ventura)-Ezer) relays (43.05, 3:23.30).
Winners for the Athenas included Rebecca Young (FR, Dulles, VA) in the 400 meters (60.16), Riley Grime (SO, Batesburg, SC) in the 800 meters (PB 2:23.69), Evelyn Ross (SR, Iowa City, IA) in the steeplechase (11:13.06), Allysa Rueschenberg (JR, San Luis Obispo) in the 5000 meters (PB 18:44.02), Aubrey Doede (SO, La Jolla) in the high jump (PB 5-3.75), Reny Colton (FR, Glendale) in the long jump (16-6.5), Maggie Crank (SR, Albuquerque, NM) in the discus throw (132-1) and the 4 x 100 (Carly London (SO, Calabasas)-Kelsey Rose (JR, Irvine)-Rachel Bunting (FR, Eugene, OR)-Heather Marra (SR, Phoenix, AZ) and 4 x 400 (Roxanne Franco (SR, Chino)-Young-Bunting-Rose) relays (51.07, 4:05.40).
CMS returns to action on Saturday, March 28 at the California-Nevada State Championships. The meet, which continues on Sunday, takes place at UCLA.
