2009-10 will mark the inaugural year of Ginger Miles' head coaching career. Miles is a 2006 graduate of the University of Virginia's College of Arts and Sciences with a degree in Government. She was a volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater in 2009 while working as an admissions counselor in the Outreach Office for the University of Virginia Office of Undergraduate Admissions. She spent three seasons coaching the Blue Ridge Lacrosse Club and coached the Virginia Western Region squad to a gold medal at the 2008 Commonwealth games. In two years as the assistant coach of Western Albemarle High school, the team was named 2007 Jefferson District Champions and 2008 Regional and District Champions. Miles was part of the 2007 and 2008 VHSL Coaching Staff of the Year for Central Virginia.

During her time as a goalkeeper at Virginia, the Cavaliers recorded one NCAA championship (2004) and two ACC championships (2004 & 2006). She earned ACC All-Tournament Team and All-ACC Academic Team honors in 2006. Miles is ranked seventh overall in all-time career saves and tied for sixth in season saves.

Ashley McCulloch

Ashley McCulloch, a two-time All-American and two-time All-ACC honoree, joins the Athenas for her first year coaching after concluding a stellar career at the University of Virginia.  She is just the fourth Cavalier to ever reach the 100 assists plateau. She also is the fourth Virginia player to break the 100 goals and 100 assists mark. She was also named the ACC and national player of the week after back-to-back eight point performances to open the season. McCulloch was a 2008 ACC All-Tournament team selection and finished her career in Virginia’s all-time record books for assists (3rd – 105) and points (8th – 206), in addition to holding three of the program’s top-10 single season marks for assists.

Shari Appollon
Title: Asst. Coach

College: Syracuse University

Shari Appollon joins the Athenas in her first year as an assistant women’s lacrosse coach. Appollon is a 2007 graduate of Syracuse University, having competed on the varsity lacrosse team as a defender for four years. While playing for the Orangewomen she was selected to the IWLCA All-Northeast Region Second Team, anchored a defensive unit that won the 2007 Inaugural Big East Tournament Championship, helped Syracuse to the second round of the NCAA championship for the first time in school history, and was selected to the Athletic Directors Honor Roll. From 2007 to 2009 she was the head coach at the University of Manchester in England where she helped the women’s 1st team to a record of 14-4-1. While coaching in England, her team finished first in their conference for the first time in school history during their 2008/2009 season. Appollon also spent two years coaching at Timperley Lacrosse Club where the women’s senior team mounted a record of 18-0-1, winning two back to back championships.
