Entekhabi Defeats Nation's Top Ranked Player

CMS lost their SCIAC opener to rival Pomona-Pitzer 6-3 on Friday, but came away with an important individual win. Yassie Entekhabi (SR, Agoura [pictured]) beat Siobhan Finicane, Division III's #1 ranked singles player, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Elisa La Cava (JR, Woodinville, WA) won both of her matches to give the Athenas their other two points. She teamed with Alle Hsu (FR, Newport Coast) to win at #3 doubles 8-6 and she won at #5 singles 6-2, 6-1.
Despite the loss, Coach Max Retzlaff was pleased with her team's efforts. "Even though we fell a little short in some of the matches we were contending to win the match right to the very end. I look forward to our next match up with Pomona-Pitzer."
CMS returns to action with a pair of matches this weekend. They travel to Thousand Oaks to play Cal Lutheran at 2:00 on Friday and then travel to Pasadena to play Caltech at 9:30 on Saturday.
