CMS Sweeps SCIAC At Multi-Duals

The men's and women's track & field team both went 7-0 at the SCIAC Multi-Dual meet over the weekend. This is the second straight year (and the seventh time in 12 years) the teams have swept the dual meets. The closest meet for both teams was against Redlands with the women winning 123-40 and men winning 110-53.

CMS won nine of the 19 events on the women's side and 6 of 19 on the men's. Double individual winners for the team included Breanne Diaz (SR, King City) in the 100 and 400 hurdles and Jeff Clark (SO, Los Altos) in the high and long jumps. Individual winners for the women included Shelby Cooley (SO, Tacoma, WA) in the 200, Camille Butts (JR, Ontario) in the 400, Evelyn Ross (SO, Iowa City, IA) in the 1500, Katie Mouzakis (SR, Alta Loma) in the steeplechase and Lauren Hodill (SR, Alameda) in the high jump. Individual winners for the men included Ryan Martin (JR, Redondo Beach) in the 400, Ben Auerbach (SR, Orinda) in the 800 and Warren Brown-Pounds (FR, Bow, WA) in the pole vault. CMS also won the men's 4 x 400 relay (Alex Auerbach [SR, Orinda], Matt Ezer [SO, Honolulu, HI], Victor Camacho [SR, Rocky Mount, NC], Martin), the women's 4 x 100 relay (Cooley, Hodill, Diaz, Butts) and women's 4 x 400 relay (Cooley, Alana MacWhorter [FY, Poulsbo, WA], Diaz, Butts).

Second place finishers for the women at the meet included Butts in the 200, Kathleen Harris (SO, Bremerton, WA) in the 800, Hodill in the 100 hurdles and triple jump, Mary Moore (SO, Yamhill, OR) in the discus and hammer and Kristen Crouse (JR, Woodinville, WA) in the javelin. Second place finishers for the men included Martin in the 200, James Moore (SR, Mercer Island, WA) in the 5000, Chris Reina (SR, Escondido) in the 110 and 400 hurdles, Ryan Pittman (FR, Ashland, OR) in the high jump, Clark in the triple jump and Rylan Weythman (SR, Cashmere, WA) in the javelin and hammer.

The Multi-Dual meet, which has all eight SCIAC teams competing at the same site, but scored as if they were competing against each separately, counts towards 25% of the SCIAC title. The other 75% is determined by the results of the SCIAC Championship meet which will take place on April 28 & 30 at Whittier College.
