CMS Sweeps SCIAC Invitational

The CMS men and women won the SCIAC Invitational for the fourth year in row on March 7.  The men scored 185.6 points and the women scored 194 points.  The teams combined to win 17 of the 38 events in the meet. 

Double event winners for the Stags included Taylor Berliant (SO, Sudbury, MA) in the shot put (49-1.75) and hammer throw (173-6) and Jeff Clark (SR, Los Altos) in the high jump (6-2.75) and long jump (22-3.25).  Other event winners for the men included Jon Hubbard in the 400 meters (50.4), Matt Streshinsky (SO, Laguna Niguel) in the pole vault (13-5.5), Grant Heffernan (SO, Newport Beach) in the discus throw (147-0), Andrew Bogrand (SR, Portland, OR) in the javelin throw (189-2) and the 4 x 100 (Jon Hubbard (JR, Pasadena), Mike Carroll (FR, Petaluma), Noah Goldberg (SR, Seattle, WA), Matt Ezer (SR, Honolulu, HI) and 4 x 400 (Hubbard-Ezer-Ryan Pittman (JR, Ashland, OR)-Carroll) relays (43.0, 3:25.83).

Winners for the Athenas included Rachel Bunting (FR, Eugene, OR [pictured]) in the 400 meters (59.0), Katie Harris (SR, Bremerton, WA) in the 3000 meters (PB 11:07.69), Aubrey Doede (SO, La Jolla) in the high jump (5-1), Reny Colton (FR, Glendale) in the triple jump (36-3), Mary Moore (SR, Yamhill, OR) in the hammer throw (150-2) and the 4 x 100 (Carly London (SO, Calabasas)-Kelsey Rose (JR, Irvine)-Bunting-Tina Chong (SO, Davis) and 4 x 400 (Rachel Young (FR, Dulles, VA-Rose-Bunting-Lily Brown (SO, Newton, MA) relays (51.3, 4:04.26).

While the SCIAC Invitational was taking place in Redlands, a group of distance runners competed at Cal State Fullerton in the Benny Brown Invitational.  Personal best marks were recorded in the 5000 meters by Kris Brown (SO, Seattle, WA) in 14:54.96 (CMS sophomore record), Brian Kopczynski (SO, Coto de Caza) in 15:00.14, Dillon Ayers (SO, Eureka) in 15:17.73, Kramer Straube (SO, Menlo Park) in 15:47.44 and by Evelyn Ross (SR, Iowa City, IA) in 17:53.80.

CMS returns to action this weekend at the SCIAC Top Four meet.  The meet, which begins with a Distance Carnival Friday evening, takes place at Occidental.  The main portion of the meet takes place on Saturday.
