LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The distance runners and sprinters for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps track & field teams competed at the Occidental Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic over the weekend at Occidental. After the storm which flooded the track and delayed races on Friday afternoon, distance runners had perfect distance running weather, which led to several strong performances and a few PRs.
Senior Bridget Blum (CMC) and junior Josh Sealand (HMC) had the most impressive times in their respective 5,000 meter events. Blum ran a very even race and set a personal record by 21 seconds. She broke 17 minutes with a time of 16:53.75 that now ranks second on the CMS all-time list. Her time earned her a seventh place finish out of 100-plus competitors.
Sealand also ran a very competitive race and improved his PR by 15 seconds. His time of 14:23.22 is the second-fastest time in CMS history and he placed 10th in the event out of 252.
Junior Jesse Joseph (HMC) won his first-ever 10,000 meters for the Stags with a time of 31:43.21, 12 seconds faster than the next-closest competitor.
In the men's 1,500 meters, senior Evan Molineux (CMC) finished second out of 133 in a very even-paced race to finish in 3:51.20. Freshman Ben Iten (HMC) came in 18th at 4:02.33. In the women's 1,500 meters, sophomore Bryn McKillop (SCR) ran a PR of 4:34.75.
