The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas (12-7, 6-2 SCIAC) moved into third place in conference with a well-fought 61-52 victory over the visiting Cal Lutheran Regals (12-7, 5-3 SCIAC) Saturday evening at Ducey Wells gymnasium. Senior Kalika Tullock led the way for the Athenas with a game-high 18 points to go along with seven rebounds. Tullock hit long-range jumpers all night long, forcing the Regals to extend their defense which opened up opportunities for her teammates.
Freshman guard Kimberly Scamman took advantage of those opportunities, as she scored 12 points and secured 10 rebounds to tally her first double-double of the season.
The Regals got solid 3-point shooting from senior Chelsea Hastigan, junior Channing Fleischmann, and freshman Cameron Jones, as the trio combined 8-of-14 from downtown. Despite Cal Lutheran's success from beyond the arc, the Athenas held the Regals to just 30% field goal shooting.
The Athenas will ride a three-game winning streak into their matchup with Caltech (0-19, 0-10 SCIAC) on Thursday. Cal Lutheran will look to bounce back against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens (3-16, 1-7 SCIAC) on Thursday as well.
