CLAREMONT, Calif. – For many, Oct. 15 is just another day,
but for women’s college basketball players across the
country, Oct. 15 marks the first day of practice in a new season.
The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s basketball team hit the
floor for the first practice of the season on Tuesday morning as
they look to build on last season’s 9-16 campaign.
CMS returns seven of the nine players who played on last year’s team including second team All-SCIAC selection Madeline Barnes. The senior led the team in scoring (15.1 ppg) and starts (25). Other returning starters from last year include senior G Kyra Ray (8.2 ppg, 24 starts), senior F Chloe Dobbert (5.4 rpg, 16 starts) and sophomore F Mara Falahee (25 starts) who led the team in rebounding and was eighth in the conference at seven rebounds per game.
The Athenas have a month of practice before their first game which at home in Ducey Gymnasium on Friday, Nov. 15 against Bethesda Christian.
