A new record for CMS in national D-III Directors’ Cup standings
By ending the school year in 11th place in the 2014-15 NCAA Division III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup final standings which were released on June 4, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics secured its highest finish in the standings in program history.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s basketball team had a 33-19 lead at halftime but ultimately was unable to stay on top, losing 61-56 to No. 18 Puget Sound from the stout Northwest Conference in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Scamman, Severt, Brackmann and Dowling honored with All-SCIAC Awards
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swept Athlete of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and Coach of the Year in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) annual awards for women’s basketball announced by the SCIAC on Mar. 5. As regular season and tournament champions, head coach of the Athenas, Kristen Dowling was named as the Coach of the Year. Senior Kimberly Scamman earned the Athlete of the Year award along with freshman Kailee Severt as the Newcomer of the Year. Additionally, sophomore Kris Brackmann earned a First Team selection.

The top four teams in SCIAC face off in the conference tournament on Thursday and Saturday this week. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the regular season title outright with a perfect 16-0 record and is the No. 1 seed for the upcoming SCIAC Tournament. On Wednesday, Feb. 18 when the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s basketball team hosts Pomona-Pitzer, the teams will take the court ready to fight. However, on this day, the basketball game will take a backseat to the fight against breast cancer, as both teams will be taking part of a nationwide initiative known as Play 4Kay.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s basketball team closed out their early season schedule with a win over Northern New Mexico College on Saturday evening 59-45. All 16 of their healthy players saw time on the court and contributed to the team win.

The Athenas came back late in the second half to beat Pacific Lutheran University 72-68 on Thursday night to extend their win streak to three games. On Saturday, the Athenas fell to the University of Puget Sound 65-86.

Last minute layup leads to win in season opener over Bethesda
The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s basketball team won their season and home opener against Bethesda University 64-63 on Friday night. The Athenas held the momentum for the majority of the game, but a second half surge by the Flames forced the game to come down to the final minute. Junior Kimberly Scamman made the game-winning layup for CMS with just under two seconds remaining.

Women's Basketball Spends An Afternoon With Students Volunteering At Vista Elementary
After a morning practice at Ducey Gymnasium on Wednesday, Jan 16, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s basketball team packed into the van to hit the court again in the afternoon, but for a different reason. With school still on break and an off day in-between games, the Athenas spent a few hours playing games and tutoring students who participate in the After School Community Education and Safety (ASES) program at Vista Del Valle Elementary School in Claremont.
