The Athenas battled at the Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz this week against UC Santa Cruz, Texas Lutheran, and McMurry University. The Athenas did not let the competition get to their heads, tying for a second place finish with host UC Santa Cruz, but receiving third after a scorecard matchup. Monica Harris from McMurry University placed first individually, with scores of 81-81. Leading the Athenas on the first day was freshman Kristina Block, who went 82-93, sinking a 40 foot putt on the ninth hole for a par on a tough par 5 and enough to put her in third place as an individual. Sophomore Lauren Buchanan shot 85-88 for a second place finish of her own, sinking a 18 footer for birdie on number 10, a tricky par 5. Sophomore Brittany Isobe shot 91-98 for a third place finish on the Athenas, draining a par putt on 16, Pasatiempo’s signature hole. Captain and senior Camilla Dorment made a fantastic up and down on number 7 with a beautifully executed chip that left her enough room for a par. Athenas freshman Elizabeth Petit finished day two strong with a phenomenal par putt following a stray drive in the rough on hole number 13 for a beautiful birdie.
