The CMS Women's Golf team won this week's CMS Co-Ed Invitational after posting two solid team scores and finishing the second round six strokes better than California Baptist University. The seven team tournament provided plenty of excitement as the University of Redlands led after day one with a team score of 319, only one stroke ahead of the Athenas, and seven strokes ahead of Cal. Baptist.
Day two would belong to the Athenas as the five competing golfers contributed solid efforts to pull ahead of both Cal. Baptist and Redlands, winning the invitational with a total two round score of 649. Cal. Baptist would finish the tournament with a team score of 654, enough for second place, with Redlands securing third place with a score of 657.
Awards were handed out to the top two teams as well as the top five individual performers. In the women's event the top five finishers were within 10 strokes of each other and finished as follows:
1) Nathalie Silva (CBU) - 151
2) Jackie Ketner (CMS) - 158
3) Marissa Suehiro (CMS) - 160
T4) Tavleen Kochar (Redlands) - 162
Charlotte Gibson (UCSC) - 162
Kelly Green (McMurry) - 162
Coach Jodie Burton summarized the team's success at the tournament by saying that the team is made up of "fabulous young golf athletes [who] are going to be tough," as the season continues into the spring.
