RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. – Of its five tournaments so far this spring, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team has won four of them including all four tournaments against NCAA Division III competition. CMS continued its stellar play this spring over the weekend as the team ran away from the field at the SCIAC #2 Golf Tournament April 5-6 at Empire Lakes Golf Course and shot a two-round score of 625, 34 shots ahead of the next closest team. With the first place finish, CMS is the top team heading into the SCIAC Golf Championships April 27-29 at Oak Valley Golf Course.
Cal Lutheran finished in second place with a score of 659 while Redlands finished in third with a score of 665. CMS held a 14 shot lead after the first round and then extended its lead by 20 shots in the second round.
For CMS, freshman Lindsay Slocum led the way with a two-round score of 155 as she finished in second place behind Pomona-Pitzer's Tiffany Gu. Slocum shot a 79 in the first round and then shot a 76 in the second round which tied for the lowest score of the weekend.
Junior Marissa Suehiro shot a 78 and 79 to finish in fourth place overall with a score of 157 while junior Shaina Raskin finished in fifth, one shot behind Suehiro. Raskin tied Slocum with a 76 for the low round of the tournament. Tied for sixth place were sophomore Melody Sue (159) and junior Tiffany Su (159). Senior Maya Reddy rounded out the field for CMS with a score of 164 as she shot 82s in both rounds.
The Athenas now have three weeks off from competition in preparation for the SCIAC Golf Championships, April 27-29. CMS has won the SCIAC Championships in each of the last two seasons.
