INDIO, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team dropped 15 strokes between the two rounds in the Ogio Bulldog Classic at the Indian Springs Golf Club for a second place finish at 635. After a very blustery day for the first round, the Athenas posted a team score of 310 to jump up from fifth place. Junior Margaret Loncki (CMC) wrapped up the tournament in second place individually after rounds of 76 and 73.

The first day saw high scores all around the course. George Fox University shot the lowest at 307 while CMS was in the middle of the pack with a 325 on the par 72 course. Loncki's 76 was good for a tie of second, just one stroke out of the lead. She started off the round 4-over after three holes but then broke even in the rest of the round with a pair of birdies. Freshman Emma Kang (CMC) led the team with three birdies during the round and finished up the first day with a 78.

Also contributing to the team score were sophomore Kelly Ransom (CMC), freshman Eunice Song (CMC) and sophomore Mary Bryan Owen (CMC). Ransom improved by five strokes in the tournament, from 84 to 79, and finished in 21st. Owen also improved from 87 to an 84 for a finish in 34th.

Song made the largest leap up in the standings with a 78 on Tuesday's round, aided by an eagle. On the first hole in the shotgun start (No. 15), Song hit her drive within 150 yards on the par four and then took dead, resulting in a two on the scorecard.

Sydney Maluenda from George Fox had the one-stroke lead on Loncki in the first round and then shot low on day two with a 70 to win the individual crown by four strokes. Loncki led the entire field in par four scoring at 1-under and ranked third in birdies with six. In the final eight holes of her round on Tuesday, Loncki was three under par for an impressive 73 on the day.

The Athenas next compete in SCIAC #2 at Jurupa Hills Country Club in Riverside April 8-9.
