CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 10 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team enters the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships as the No. 1 seed. The Athenas sit 11 strokes ahead of No. 7 Redlands after having taken a 26-stroke lead after the SCIAC #1 tournament, but then dropping 15 in SCIAC #2.
The 2017 SCIAC Championships will be held at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills. The women's teams are slated to compete on the North Course each of the three days of the tournament: April 23-25. With four rounds (two from each regular season tournament) already in the books, the 2017 SCIAC Champion will be crowned at the completion of the three rounds of the championships this weekend. CMS will tee off Sunday and Monday beginning at 10 a.m. and then at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. The Athenas are paired with Redlands, Pomona-Pitzer and Cal Lutheran on the first day.
Junior Margaret Loncki (CMC) has led CMS all season. She posted the low round on both days of SCIAC #1 for the 10-stroke tournament win at just 9-over. Playing at No. 2 for CMS is sophomore Kelly Ransom (CMC). Ransom won the prestigious Jekyll Island Invite in March and then has placed seventh and sixth at the SCIAC tournaments.
Freshman Emma Kang (CMC) shot the lowest round on Sunday at SCIAC #2 to finish in third place individually. Junior Cara Brinster (CMC) broke onto the scene at SCIAC #2 with a 12th place finish after stringing together an 81 and then an 80. Rounding out the scoring group for CMS are freshmen Eunice Song (CMC) and Taylor Hughes (CMC).
Spectator information can be found on the tournament host webpage. Regular admission is $10, seniors and military are $5 and students/faculty/staff with SCIAC ID and kids under 12 are free.
