Stags Win SCIAC Title

CMS beat Caltech 89-55 on Senior Night at Ducey Gymnasium Tuesday. The win, coupled with Whittier's defeat of Cal Lutheran, earned the Stags the outright SCIAC Championship. This is the team's 13th title.  The win also made the Stags the number one seed at the SCIAC Tournament.  They will host Cal Lutheran this Friday at 7:30.

CMS honored seniors Austin Soldner (Southlake, TX ) and Tejas Gala (Arcadia) prior to the game for their four years as Stags.  The team then opened the game on a 20-3 run over the first six minutes and never led by less than 14 points for the rest of the game.  Soldner had a solid final regular season home game with nine points and led the team with eight rebounds and four assists.  Gala added four points and four rebounds.

The Stags were able to conserve energy for the weekend's tournament by having contributions from the whole team.  The entire squad saw action with 14 players scoring three or more points with no player playing more than 19 minutes.  Joey Anderson (FR, Lafayette), starting for the first time in his career, scored ten points and had six rebounds and two assists.  He also had the highlight of the night, a one-handed dunk off a back-door cut.  Beau Heidrich (SO, Woodside) led the team with 11 points.  CMS outrebounded Caltech 40-17 and shot 64.7% (11-17) on three-pointers.

CMS (19-6, 11-3 SCIAC) was 4-2 against the other team's in the SCIAC Tournament - Whittier, Cal Lutheran and Pomona-Pitzer - including 3-0 at home.  The other three teams tied for second at 10-4 and Whittier won the tiebreaker to earn the number two seed at the tournament.  They will host Pomona-Pitzer [they won a coin toss to determine the third and fourth seeds] on Friday at 7:30.  The winners of Friday's games will meet on Saturday at 7:30 with the highest remaining seed hosting.
