CMS Opens SCIAC Season With Home Win
The CMS Stag and Athena swimming and diving teams opened SCIAC
competition with a pair of dual meet wins on Friday, December 5 at
the Axelrood Aquatic Center. The Athenas defeated Cal Tech 173 to
44 and the Stags won 165 to 52.
The Athenas won every event, with 8 different Athenas notching
individual wins. Jessica Harrang (SR, Sammamish, WA) won the 50
yard freestyle and the 100 breast to lead the way. In other
freestyle events, Whitney Dawson (FR, Portland, OR) the 100, Jenni
Rinker (SO, Eagle River, AK) won the 200 freestyle, and Emma Jones
(FR, Eugene, OR) won the 500. Chrysanthia Cheung-Lau (SO, Ontario)
won the 200 IM and Katie Bilotti (FR, Orinda) took first in the 100
back.
Lauren Yeske (FR, Oak Park, IL) won 1-meter diving, with Teija
Mortvedt (SO, Bremerton, WA) taking first on the 3-meter board. CMS
relay teams also dominated, posting first and second in both the
200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.
The Stags were equally impressive, winning 8 events. Jeff McNerney
(FR, Paradise Valley, AZ) won the sprint events for CMS, notching
victories in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle races. Fellow freshmen
Austin Hallett (Bainbridge Island, WA) and Vincent Pai (Walnut) won
the 200 free and 100 fly, respectively. Garrett Smith (SO, Goleta)
won the 3-meter diving event. Rounding out the winners were Nick
Ostreim (SO, Phoenix, AZ) in the 200 IM, Greg Sanford (SO, Newport
Beach) in the 500 free and Brian Li (SO, Hong Kong, China) in the
100 breast. Like the Athenas, the Stags took first and second in
both relays.
