Athenas extend win streak to seven with a double digit win over Depauw University
Claremont, Calif- If there was any question about whether the Athenas were going to slow down after being on fire in their last game it was quickly answered. The Athenas jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first twelve minutes of play to help propel them to an 18-6 victory over the Depauw University Tigers (IN).
The Athenas gained their lead early in large part due to freshman Zoe Pinczower who had four of the first six goals for the Athenas. The Tigers fought back with a 5-1 run that was started by freshman Nicole Gibson and finished by freshman Emilye Denny. However, the Athenas tightened up their defense and went on a 3-0 run of their own to extend their lead and finish the half ahead of the Tigers 9-5.
In the second half the Athenas showed no signs of letting up on offense or defense as they outscored the Tigers 9-1 to cruise to an 18-6 victory and extend their win streak to seven.
The Athenas were led in scoring by freshman Zoe Pinczower, freshman Cara Cancelmo, and senior Anthea Weixel who each had four goals. Also, freshman Oona Pritchard came up with four ground balls to lead the team. The Tigers were led by freshman Taylor Summers who had two goals.
The Athenas will take the field vs. Southwestern (TX) on Saturday, March 29 at home on Parents Field at 1:00 PM.
