CMS Blanks Whittier

The men's and women's soccer teams each recorded shutout wins over Whittier this weekend. The women won 4-0 at home while the men won 3-0 at Whittier. The Athenas improved to 4-3-1 overall and 2-2 in SCIAC play while the Stags are now 3-3 overall and 2-1 in SCIAC.

The Athenas peppered the Poet goalie with shots all game and ended up out-shooting Whittier 45-2. Four different players scored goals. Nicole Esclamado (SR, Napa) had her team-high sixth to open the scoring. Ashley Green (SO, Seattle, WA) recorded her first on a breakaway to give the team a 2-0 halftime lead. Giselle Galanto (FR, Duarte) scored midway through the second half off an assist from Heather Marra (SO, Phoenix, AZ). Brittney Watson (FR, Sammamish, WA) completed the scoring with her first of the season off an assist from Green. Erica Jones (FR, Tempe, AZ) had two saves and recorded her first shutout of the season.

After a scoreless first half, Pat Morrison (JR, Malibu) and Griffin Halpern (JR, San Diego) took over for the Stags. Morrison scored the game-winner off a free kick and then assisted Halpern on two goals scored less than two minutes apart. CMS outshot Whittier 13-3. Cam Whelan-Miille (SR, Sacramento) made one save and recorded his second and the team's third shutout of the season.

Both team return to action on Wednesday, September 27 against Occidental. The Stags will play at home while the Athenas will travel to Eagle Rock. Both games begin at 4:00.
