CMS Ties Whittier Despite Dominating Play
CMS outshot Whittier 51-7 in the women's soccer game on Wednesday, but had to settle for a 0-0 tie in double overtime. CMS is now 6-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in SCIAC play. Unfortunately for the Athenas, of the 51 shots only 15 were on frame. The Athenas created wonderful opportunities, but missed wide or high on many occurrences. The Athenas had many clear chances, but were unable to finish them. Rachel Bunting (SO, Eugene, OR) striked a volley off the crossbar after a loose ball bounced in the 18-yard box. Nicole Sady-Kennedy (SR, Ladera Ranch) took a shot just outside the 18-yard box from the right side and hit the far post. The ball bounced back out and it was hit just wide. Whittier fought hard throughout the whole game. Defensively, they were able to shut down the Athenas and throw-off their offense by packing the box, shifting at the right moments, and putting high pressure on their offensive line. They battled well and were able to keep the shutout. CMS plays their next game against Occidental at home on Pritzlaff Field at 11:00 on Saturday, October 3.
