The Athenas Soccer Team traveled to Santa Barbara to take on Westmont College today. The Athenas came out hard and controlled play in the first 10 minutes, but could not generate any opportunities from their possession. Westmont countered and earned a corner in the 17th minute and scored off a well driven ball just over the CMS keeper, So. Hannah Dunham. The Athenas' best chance to score in the first half came off of a free kick from about 30 yards out that So. Shaundra Ullmann hit off the cross bar. Fr. Ashley Barnhill challenged the rebound, but the Westmont keeper secured possession first.
The game was very physical and the CMS team did well to hold their own against a tough Westmont team. In the second half, the Athenas again battled and created a few more chances at goal. The best one being a cross from Sr. Rosa Ahn who had been subbed in at center forward from her normal central defender role. The cross went just over the on rushing forward, Sr. Rachel Bunting. The Athenas were gaining momentum in the closing minutes of play, but could not manage a goal.
The CMS team travel to Whittier tomorrow night for a 7pm kickoff.
