The CMS women's soccer team traveled to Whittier tonight to take on the Poets. The Athenas came out hard from the start looking to attack. In the 24th minute, that hard work paid off with a great cross from Sr. Michele Barnhill finding the head of Sr. Rachel Bunting (pictured) for the 1st goal of the night. Within a minute or two, Barnhill received a quick pass from Jr. Madi Shove and sent a long range shot at goal that slipped by the Whittier keeper for the Athenas' second goal of the night. In the second half, the Athenas continued to pressure the Whittier goal. With that pressure, Fr. Izzy Lester stole a ball at midfield and sent a one touch pass through to a racing Shove who finished her break away for the 3rd goal. The final two goals of the night were both scored by So. Shauny Ullman. The first came off a pass from Jr. Annie Belanger. The second off a pass from Jr. Scooby Phillips. Whittier's offense gave the Athena's some trouble and both So. keeper Hannah Dunham and fr. keeper Sophia Williams had to make some key saves to keep the shut out intact.
The Athenas are back at home this Wednesday night playing La Verne at 7:00pm.
