The CMS women's soccer team battled through on a hot day to beat Occidental 1-0. Temperatures hovered near the 100 degree mark and the Athenas were excited to break out their pink sleeveless jerseys for breast cancer awareness today. The game was hard fought for both teams. Neither team really managed to outplay the other in the first half and the score at halftime reflected that - tied at 0-0.
Both teams emerged with renewed energy after half and created opportunities. CMS finally finished in the 60th minute when Shauny Ullman drove a hard shot in that hit the post and Isabel Lester (pictured) was there to finish it for her first goal of the season. In the final minutes, Oxy threw numbers forward and had a shot hit the post and several other dangerous chances, but the CMS defense held tough for their second straight shut out.
CMS improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in SCIAC. CMS plays next on Wednesday at 7:00pm at La Verne.
