Tweedy, Shove, Ullman, Sylvester Each Named To Scholar All-West Region Team
CLAREMONT, Calif. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced its annual Scholar All-West Region team on Tuesday and four Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer players were selected, including three to the second team. Junior M Shaundra Ullman (CMC), junior D Sara Tweedy (HMC) and senior F Madi Shove (Scripps) were named to the second team while senior M Olivia Sylvester (CMC) earned third team honors.
Ullman, the junior from Portland, Ore. started 18 of 19 games in 2012 and had two game-winning goals as she was named first team All-SCIAC along with All-Region. She has posted a 3.43 grade-point average during her three years as a government and psychology major.
In addition to being named to the Scholar All-West Region team, Shove earned third team All-West Region after leading the team in goals (11) and also had two game-winning goals this season while adding two assists. The Portola Valley, Calif. native started all 19 games for the Athenas in 2012 while also earning first team All-SCIAC honors. She has a 3.48 GPA in media studies.
Tweedy played all 19 games on defense for the Athenas who held opponents to 1.53 goals per game and three shutouts. The Ann Arbor, Mich. native posted a 3.59 GPA in chemistry. Sylvester also started all 19 games for CMS. The Seattle, Wash. native had three goals and one assist and in the classroom she had a 3.4 GPA in psychology and media studies.
This season the Athenas finished in third place in the SCIAC with an 11-7-1 overall record, 9-5 in SCIAC play.
Founded in 1941 and based in Kansas City, Kan., the NSCAA is the world's largest soccer coaches association that serves members at each level of soccer coaching. The NSCAA and its members recognize student-athletes at all levels with yearly awards such as All-Region, All-America and Scholar All-America. The NSCAA's awards program honors roughly 10,000 athletes annually. In addition, the NSCAA also administers national high school and college rankings programs.
