NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships Selection Show (Monday, Nov. 11 – 10:30 a.m. PST)
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran entered the SCIAC Postseason Tournament as the top seed with just two conference losses. None of that mattered on Saturday night in the conference tournament championship match as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team defeated top-seeded Cal Lutheran 1-0 at Rolland Stadium to earn the SCIAC's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Championships. It is the Athenas' first trip to the NCAA Championships and first SCIAC Postseason Tournament championship since 2009.
The Athenas find out their NCAA Division III Championships first round opponent on Monday, Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. PST when the field is announced on the Selection Show which can be watched here.
For the second-straight match, the Athenas won 1-0 with its lone goal coming in the second half. In the 53rd minute, senior D Lauren Allen scored the game-winner off an assist from senior M Lauren Phillips.
Over the final 37 minutes of the second half, senior GK Hannah Dunham had three of her five saves in the match, including a save on a last-ditch shot attempt by Cal Lu with just over one minute remaining in the match.
Cal Lu outshot CMS 15-12 in the match. The last time CMS and CLU faced off in the championship match of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament, CLU escaped with an overtime win on penalty kicks.
